Science fun in year 2.

Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term. We hope all the children had a lovely break.

We have had another great week of learning particularly in English where we have been linking our Science learning in by exploring the different materials used for building houses.

The children have learnt lots of fabulous new language to describe the properties of the materials and why they might be used for different purposes.

Our trip to Wickes and Topps Tiles was a fantastic experience for the children to have a chance to see building materials for real and use the language they had learnt to describe what they saw. We are excited to see the writing outcomes next week from this trip.

Big thank you again to all the parents that have helped out with this trip, we could not have done it without you!

Please could all children practice their spellings and handwriting as much as possible. We will be giving children commitment ticks for doing this and sharing it with us in school.

Have a lovely weekend.

RE Home Learning

In RE we are learning abut the different Saints. For home learning can your child find out about a Saint and write down what they have one in their lives to become a Saint.

Your child can choose to make a poster, paint a picture, make a model or write a story about a Saint. These are just a few ideas for how your child can be creative with their home learning.

We wish you all a relaxing week off and we shall see you after half term.

Many thanks for your continued support with your children’s learning.

Year 2 team.

Our fun week in year 2.

On Tuesday we had a lovely  time sharing our Creation Liturgy to all our families. Thank you to everyone that came and shared this special time with us. We really appreciate it.

We also had a wonderful time on our school trip to Waterlooville Library. We listened to some new stories that have come into the library and we enjoyed a treasure hunt to find different types of books. Many thanks to everyone who came to help as without you, our trips would not be possible. We greatly appreciate you giving up your time for the children.

Please could we ask you to check all your child’s school jumpers at home as we have had a few children who have lost their jumper’s which have names in. We appreciate children can sometimes pick up the wrong jumper without realising so we would be grateful if you could just double check your child has the right one. Many thanks.

Have a lovely weekend. See you all next week.

From the year 2 team.

We have had lots of fun this week estimating in maths which linked well with our competition to raise money for CAFOD by estimating how many cubes were in the jar. Thank you all for your donations towards this fantastic charity.

All the children have enjoyed writing their postcard for our new class book called Meerkat Mail 2. We are all excited to publish this.

We have also been getting ready for our Liturgy which will be on Tuesday 11th October at 10.20am in the hall. We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible.

Have a wonderful weekend.

From the Year 2 team 🙂

Another exciting week in year 2!

This week we have been working hard in maths learning how to add and subtract numbers using a number line.

In English we have continued reading the book Meerkat Mail and learning how to write our own post cards to Sunny which has been an enjoyable task for all learning some fantastic literacy skills.

We have enjoyed learning all about where children come from when sharing our home learning. We have also learnt what foods are best to eat to keep our bodies fit and healthy and creating a plate with foods to show this.

We are excited to take part in our CAFOD fun raising day on Thursday so please don’t forget to wear something bright and bring in a donation. Thank you 🙂

Have a lovely weekend

A journey to Africa!

We had a fantastic beginning to our week with a trip to Africa in an aeroplane. I expect your children have been telling you all about it. We saw some excellent writing from their experience describing what they saw along the way.

It has been an excellent way to get the children hooked into our topic which is linked with the book Meerkat Mail. Children have been excited to find out all about Sunny, reading all his post cards from the different places he has visited. We are looking forward to writing our own postcard.

The children have been working hard in their maths learning with adding a one digit number to a two-digit number. Commitment has been shown from all the children to do their best in their work.

If you log in to the website www.mymaths.co.uk , the children have now been allocated homework on this site and their log in is in their diaries.

All children have now been given their Active Learn log in where they can access bug club for reading homework and abacus for more maths learning. If you are still unsure how to access it please come and see Miss Allen or Mrs Layton who can help you with this.

It has been amazing to see so much home learning from the children. Well done to all 🙂

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Our learning this week.

We have had a brilliant first full week back getting stuck into our new learning.

In maths we have been learning all about greater than and less than and understanding place value of numbers. We had such fun playing the base ten game together that we would like to share some photos with you 🙂

We have created some beautiful writing in our English lessons. It has been lovely hearing all about the children’s summer holiday adventures in their recounts.

It has been a pleasure looking at all the children’s home learning this week and seeing so many children taking part in the reading challenge at the library. A big well done to all the children for showing excellent commitment to their learning outside of school.

Welcome Meeting

Many thanks to all who attended our welcome meeting on Tuesday evening. We really appreciate your feedback and have taken it all on board and have added a few things to this blog to support your child’s learning at home. For those of you who were unable to make it, I have also added the power point to take notes from. Please feel welcome to ask any of the year 2 team any further questions you may have.

Here are two lists of the high frequency words which we would like the children to practice as much as possible with spelling and reading to help them with their writing. t-l-4541-100-high-frequency-words-word-mat

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back to the new year! Hope you all had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the glorious weather we were so lucky to have.
All the children have settled well into their new classrooms with their new teachers and have shown excellent commitment to their learning during their first week back.
We are excited for this upcoming year with lots of engaging topics being covered to hook the children into their learning.
Our first topic is ‘Where do I come from?’ This allows children to focus on where they live in the world in comparison to others.
We have sent the home learning home and we ask children to choose a few things to do to cover them over the term. We are not expecting children to complete all the tasks however it would be lovely for them to share a piece of home learning each week.
Please could you encourage reading at home as much as possible and record this in their home learning diaries.
