This Week in Year 2
We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing the children’s bird art this week there have been some very artistic creations. They have all fluttered off to be displayed outside Mrs. Bowen’s office. The children have really been inspired by each other and Phoebe has now even written her own book about birds. She had some grumpy birds who ate some fish… this reminded me to tell the children about the night I had had with my cat! Children tell your mums and dads about my naughty cat!
On Wednesday 21st we will be having a DT day and so we need your boxes in to make our Superhero cars with before then please.
Children will be bringing home the phonics that we have been working on during the week every Friday. Please look for the sounds in books and encourage children to identify alternative spellings. For example ay, ea, a-e, a ai, eigh and ey all make the same sound! This has been quite tricky for the children as you can imagine so the more practise they get the better.
Thank you again for all your support.
Giraffe class look forward to seeing you all at their ukulele concert on Monday 19th October at 11.15 in Giraffe class.

Home Learning
Home learning has got off to a great start in year 2. Children really took on the challenge of creating some bird art we have had some wonderful designs which will be displayed around the school soon. (Closing date 16th October 2015.) We have also had a great response to the RE home learning and children have created some very informative posters about how to look after God’s creation.
This week children could continue to find out about their learning heroes. Or they could begin to think about their own ambitions in life and how they will achieve them. We look forward to hearing all about it!
Don’t forget to continue reading every night. Also practise number bonds and the 10, then 2, then 5 times tables.
Below is a picture of some of our wonderful home learning on display in the school library.
This week in school!
This week we have been creating our own superheroes. We have been using alliteration, expanded noun phrases and similes to describe them. Today we are going to begin to create instructions for our superheroes. We have also designed cars for them and are looking forward to building them soon making sure that we have working wheels attached by axles. Please bring in a box in preparation. (Cereal box size or similar.)
Miss Allen’s class have written emails to superheroes and are looking forward to replies!
Also today we will be finding out about some people in history who have inspired us. Ask the children who they have found out about! Please continue with home learning on this topic. Use the Bloom’s Triangle to give you some ideas.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Luter and Miss Allen
Super? Hero?
Today a rather sad ‘superhero’ came to visit us. She has lost all of her powers. Her super car no longer does anything super, her weapon is a flop and her theme tune has run dry! We have decided that she needs some help and will be designing and making a new car for her, writing a new theme tune and creating a new super weapon.
Watch this space to see how we get on!
We hope that you are enjoying finding out about learning heroes for home learning, we look forward to sharing your children’s learning.
