Easter Art

Draw or paint a scene from Good Friday.  You can take inspiration from one of the pictures you find on the internet, or use your own imagination. Try to use either pointillism, Pop Art or a combination of the two.

However, if none of these appeal to you , why not try one of these?

Fancy something different:

Make a stained glass window about ONE of the Stations of the Cross that means the most to you.

Create your own Easter Garden, include a simple cross, cave/tomb, add flowers and/or seeds that will grow over Easter.

I will also love to see any other art work that you make and will post it on the Art Blog.

Email your art work to me:

Remember to include your name and Year group

Thank you

Friday 3rd April – Religious Education

As part of your RE learning and preparation for Easter, we would like you to focus upon Holy Week – this is when Christians reflect on the final week of Jesus’s life. Can you complete ONE of the following activities, to develop your knowledge of this special time in the Liturgical Year?
  • Create a PowerPoint that includes information about each station of the cross.
  • Write prayer booklet, to thank Jesus for His sacrifice and offer prayers of strength and support to those who are suffering.
  • Record the thoughts and feelings of Mary in a journal – how would she have felt at this time? Why?
  • Make a stained glass window about ONE of the stations of the cross that means the most to you.
  • Host a worship session with members of your household. Can you choose a special image or bible passage to use as part of your reflection on the events of Holy Week?
  • Write the words ‘Holy Week’ in large bubble writing and include any relevant religious symbols, signs and Holy colours to decorate it with.
  • Look up the stations of the cross online and read the Bible story. Can you use drama or role play to re-enact each scene and remember what happened?
Friday 10th April – Religious education

This week, as part of your RE learning, we would like you to focus upon (CHOOSE THE FAITH ACCORDING TO YEAR GROUP STUDY)  Hinduism/Sikhism/Judaism/Islam. Can you complete ONE of the following activities, to develop your knowledge of this faith further?

  • An information poster including 10 key facts about the religion.
  • Write a diary entry for a follower of this faith – what would their day look like and how would they pray?
  • Build a place of worship for your chosen faith (e.g. temple, Gurdwara, Mosque)
  • Create a piece of music that could be used for prayer by the followers of this religion.
  • If you could make a set of rules or commandments for this faith, what would they be?
  • Create a set of top trump, ‘snap’ or ‘pairs’ cards about this faith, to play with your family members.

For example: The lion gazes patiently into the distance.

  1. How do you think the Orangutan is feeling?
  2. Why could all the animals be together?
  3. Which animal would you choose to work in the health clinic? Why?

Art Home Learning Task

This week I would like you to create something with a paper plate.  Please don’t worry if you do not have one at home you can just draw around a plate and then cut it out.

I would like you to link it to the country that your Year Group is studying, so here are some ideas.  However, any creation would be wonderful.

Please email a photo of your artwork to me and I will share it on the Art Blog.

Keep creating and keep safe!

Writing:

As our school trip was cancelled, we are going to be writing an information sheet about the Titanic. See below the letter we have already shared with the children.

Dear the pupils of St Peter’s Catholic Primary School.

We are writing to you to tell you how disappointed we are that we did not get the opportunity to see you today. We have heard from your teachers that you are incredibly knowledgeable about the Titanic already and that you have all learnt so much about it both at home and in school.
We hope you won’t mind helping us. Please could you design and create an information sheet for us all about Titanic. The aim of this information sheet would be to help other visitors to the museum learn all about Titanic herself.

Please ensure your writing includes lots of description in order for the other visitors to have a clear image of The Titanic imprinted in their mind.

Thank you for your help,
The Sea City Museum

Your information MUST include:

  • Title
  • Subheadings
  • Illustrations
  • Facts
  • Conjunctions

Please feel free to make your information sheets bright, bold and creative.

Sea City Museum Video Tour

We were so sorry that we had to cancel our trip to Sea City Museum in Southampton but delighted to hear from the kind staff at Sea City Museum who have recorded and sent us a video tour.

They are also working on a virtual art gallery which we will forward on to you when we receive it.

We

This week in Year 2

Thank you to all those who attended our Liturgy on Tuesday. We thoroughly enjoyed our time worshipping with you.

In Maths this week, we have continued to work on Fractions finding half, quarter and three-quarters of amounts. We have started to revise division and the children are becoming much more fluent with their 2, 5 and 10 times table. Please continue to practise times tables and number facts at home.

In English, we have been planning our letters to home as if we were Samson or the Captain of the Titanic. The children have been writing in first person and have focused on how they would have felt during this traumatic event.

Have a fabulous weekend!

The Year 2 Team

Professor Cranium

Last week six of our Year 2 pupils were invited to attend the Professor Cranium event at Crookhorn School. Using all their critical thinking skills, their ability to reflect on their learning, and fabulous team work, the children solved many mind puzzling challenges. The event was run as a competition and we are delighted to say our Year 2 children came in 2nd place. In addition to this, we are very proud that their wonderful manners were noted by the organisers . Well done Year 2, you’ve done us proud!

Ash Wednesday In Year 2

This week marks the start of Lent.

In Year 2 we attended an Ash Wednesday service in the hall led by Miss Keogh. We made our commitments to God and received the ashes on our foreheads.

We then discussed the meaning of the ashes in class and created posters.
