Lion Inside 🦁

We have had another lovely, albeit very busy week in reception! The children are becoming noticeably more settled every day and are getting more confident with familiar routines. A lot of firsts this week with our first school photos and borrowing our first book from the school library, which means we are understandably quite tired.

📚Literacy📚
This week we have been reading ‘The Lion Inside’ and working on our mark making. We thought about times of when we had been brave and drew a picture of this which helped us to give meaning to the marks we make. We have also been developing our fine motor control through different activities.

🧮Maths🧮
This week we have been looking at sorting objects and have used the items collected on your autumn walks to sort groups. We have also been learning about more, fewer and the same and comparing different groups of objects. It was really lovely to see the children applying this vocabulary in their discovery time as well.

✝️RE✝️
We have continued looking at the story of Creation and how the world is a gift from God. We have been discussing how we can look after the world and focused on ‘stewardship’.

Owl Babies 🦉

What a lovely week we have had in Reception! The children have continued to settle beautifully and are becoming increasingly confident with our routines, making new friends and exploring all the exciting learning opportunities in the classroom. Tiredness is kicking in for some children. We will continue to support them as they leave their caregiver in the morning but a short sweet goodbye is often the best.

📚 Literacy
This week, we have enjoyed the story ‘Owl Babies’. The children have taken part in lots of activities linked to the story, including talking about the characters and their feelings, retelling parts of the story and exploring new vocabulary. We have also enjoyed joining in with the story and developing our understanding through play and different creative activities.

🔢 Maths
In maths, we have been learning about sets and practising identifying a set of objects. We have also been sorting objects into different groups according to their type and talking about how we know which objects belong together. We have started to learn how to subitise numbers 1 and 2 – recognising these small quantities quickly without needing to count each object.

It has been a fantastic week of learning, exploring and having fun together. We are very proud of how well the children are settling into life in Reception and look forward to another exciting week ahead!

First full-time week 🏫

What a wonderful first full-time week we have had in Reception! The children have settled in really well and we are so proud of them. They are beginning to make new friends, build relationships with the adults around them and, importantly, are getting to know the routines of our school day. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing throughout the week.

This week, we have enjoyed exploring the story The Colour Monster. We have talked about the different feelings represented by each colour and discussed how we might feel at different times. The children have been encouraged to talk about their emotions and think about things we can do to help ourselves feel green – calm and settled or yellow – happy and excited. We will continue to develop our understanding of feelings and how we can look after ourselves and each other.

In Maths, we have been learning about sorting and matching. The children have enjoyed finding objects that are the same and sorting objects into different groups. We have been encouraging them to explain why they have grouped objects together and to use mathematical language when talking about what they notice.

In RE, we have started to explore the Creation Story and think about the wonderful world around us. We went on a walk around our school grounds to identify and talk about some of the things that God has given us. The children enjoyed looking carefully at nature and noticing the different things around them.

Week 1

🌈 Our First Week in Reception 🌈
WOW! What an incredible first week we have had in Reception!

We are so incredibly proud of all of the children and how brilliantly they have settled into their new classroom, routines and school environment. Starting Reception is such a big milestone, and the children have shown so much confidence, resilience and independence already. It has been wonderful getting to know them and seeing their personalities shine through. 💛

The children have been busy learning all about their new classroom, meeting their teachers and friends, and becoming familiar with our daily routines. We have been practising important things such as lining up, listening to instructions, tidying up, finding our belongings and becoming more independent.
