St. George’s Day Thursday 23rd April

This Thursday is St George’s day. It is a day that we would normally focus on with the children if we were in school. However because at this time we aren’t, we thought you could talk about what the day is a celebration of.
Twinkl has an informative power point you could share with your child

Here is a link to the story as a power point-

Your child can choose anything they would like to show their understanding of the story. This could be through drawing a picture from the story and writing a few sentences underneath to explain something that happens, building a scene from the story using junk modelling or Lego or even dressing up as George and acting it out.

Here is a link to make your own finger puppets to use when re telling the story-

Share anything your child does with us on Tapestry 😊

Mrs Pearson’s Art Home Learning

The title for your art this week is ‘NEW LIFE’.  You can be as creative as you like.  It could be a drawing of yourself as a baby,  a baby animal made out of kitchen roll tubes, a photograph of a tree with buds, an Andy Goldsworthy inspired piece of art made out of natural things in your garden or when you have been on a walk.  Impress me with your creativity!

Please email your artwork to me:

Thank you!

Keep creating and keep safe!

Family Science Activity 17.4.20

Please continue to use all the resources we have provided up until now including Sumdog, where we will be uploading more challenges for your child to take part in.

Twinkl is also an excellent resource for any work sheets you may like to download to support your child’s learning at home.

Keep smiling, stay safe and we will be in touch again soon 🙂

Easter home learning

As it is the Easter holidays next week we have a slightly different format for home learning for the next 2 weeks. We still expect children to continue learning the sounds they know and apply these in their writing. We also expect all children to continue reading every day. Children should still be practising their recognition and ordering of numbers up to 20. In addition to this children have 2 RE learning challenges. Please click on the link below:

RE home learning

Grown-ups, please check your emails for a ‘How to guide’ on Tapestry. It gives you step by step instructions on how to download the app and add observations of your child so we can continue the home school link at this uncertain time. We really would love for all parents to be uploading things to Tapestry as its a great way to continue the children’s learning. It also gives us the opportunity to respond to the children’s home learning positively and provide additional support if it is needed.

Enjoy the Easter holidays. Hopefully, you’ll get to eat some yummy chocolate!

Thank you, The Early Years Team.

Reading Challenge 2020

We received this email form Hampshire School Library Service.

Hampshire SLS would like to encourage all pupils to read during this stay at home period. Why not take part in our #ReadAtHome challenge? We are asking pupils to read 6 books (although you can read more if you wish) and submit a short review for each title here. If you run out of books at home, why not try the great range of titles on the SLS ePlatform?

You can direct your pupils to our Moodle Homepage to complete their review. Once completed pupils can download a certificate, which will be made available shortly!
Here is the website:

Happy reading! Do let us know if your child joins in with this by putting a photo on Tapestry 😃

Holy Week and Easter Art

Mrs Pearson our school art leader has set some tasks for the children to do during Easter.

Make or draw either a cross or an Easter egg, then decorate it using a variety of different materials that you find around your house.

Fancy something different:

Create your own Easter Garden, include a simple cross, cave/tomb, add flowers and/or seeds that will grow over Easter.

Email your art work to Mrs Pearson and put it on Tapestry for your teachers to see:

STEM ideas

Here is an idea to engage your child in STEM.

The term stands for –

Science
Technology
Engineering
Maths

I have found some fun, simple STEM ideas you can do at home with your child, remember it’s all about having FUN, you don’t need to be a scientist, an expert in technology, an engineer, or a mathematician. I will be sharing a new idea each week to engage your child with.
Please share any photos/videos on Tapestry for us to see.

Online resources

Here is a website where you can register for free and have access to ebooks for your child to read.
Follow the link below

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+4-5&level=&level_select=&book_type=&series=#

Please also encourage your child to log into Sumdog (passwords sent individually through Tapestry) where your child can play games which develop their mathematical skills. It also supports the phonics sound that you teach each day by your child reading words related to the sound they are focusing on.
New challenges are added weekly so please encourage them to log in frequently.

We are enjoying seeing all the learning that has been put onto Tapestry already, it is a great way for us to see how your child is progressing and helps us to know what further support we can give whilst they are learning at home.

Keep smiling and having fun with your children through this tricky time 😊

Activities based on the story What The Ladybird Heard

This morning I have come across this fantastic resource particularly for children who love Julia Donaldson stories, which I know many of your children do.
Each day there is an activity based on the story What the Ladybird Heard and can be completed without the book.
Have lots of creative fun and remember to share it with us on Tapestry 😊
