Home Learning
We have started our new topic ‘Nocturnal Animals’.
Children have a new Home Learning Adventure Book with the Pyramid of activities for the topic.
Please spend some time looking through the pyramid and thinking about what you are going to have a go at this coming term.
Phonics
Miss Smillie’s Phonics Group – We have been learning about using mnemonics to help remember a spelling e.g. BECAUSE – Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants.
Can you make your own mnemonic to remember a spelling you find tricky?
Miss Hele’s/ Mrs Wickes’ Phonics Group– Find words with the /ow/ sound spelt ‘ou’, ‘ow’ and ‘ough’.
Practice spelling the words ‘some’, ‘come’, ‘where’ and ‘who’.
Miss Stinton’s Phonics Group– Find words with different spellings of the /ai/ sound – ‘a_e’, ‘ai’, ‘ay’, ‘a’, ‘eigh’, ‘ey’, ‘ei’, ‘aigh’ and ‘ea’.
Which is the most common?
Can you find which spelling is usually found in the middle or at the end of words?

RE
Think about making your Lenten promises as a family. What other things can you do to distract you from temptations during Lent? Perhaps plan some family time away from the TV or games consoles!
Phonics
Miss Smillie’s Phonics Group – Find base words that end in ‘y’ e.g. happy, carry, worry – can you change the suffix (ending) to create new words e.g. carry – carried and think about the spelling.
Miss Hele’s/ Mrs Wickes’ Phonics Group– Find words with the /ew/ sound spelt ‘ue’, ‘oo’ and ‘u_e’.
Miss Stinton’s Phonics Group– Practice spelling the tricky words: mouse, once, because, please and work.
Maths
During our mental maths today, a lot of children still struggled to ‘find the difference’ between two numbers. Please practice finding the difference between numbers like 11 and 4 or 5 and 13. You can put the smaller number in your head and then count on using your fingers to the larger number. As a number sentence this would look like:
4 + ___ = 11 or 11 = 4 + ___ or 11 – ___ = 4 or 4 = 11 – ___

Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken!
We had some very exciting visitors in Year Two this afternoon!
It was Reception’s last day with their ‘Living Eggs’ so we borrowed them for half an hour to cuddle and get to know a little bit more about the lifecycle of a chicken.
It was very egg-citing!
We have added some photos below for you to chick-out!
Why don’t you use this as a starting point to get your child to talk all about the experience…
Giraffe Class Tuned Percussion Concert
Apologies for the delay in putting the photos up, we have been very busy in Year Two!
At last, here they are! We hope you enjoyed our concert.
Thank you to all parents that were able to attend.
We appreciate that not all of you were able to come so hopefully these pictures will help you to see what the children could do.
World Book Day
Thank you everyone for your amazing contributions to World Book Day. The costumes were, as always, fantastic and very creative!
The children had a great time, I’m sure they told you all about it yesterday evening.
Below is a picture of Elephant class dressed as their favourite Fantasy story characters.

RE
Try to give up something this weekend that you really love doing like watching TV or playing on your games consoles. Think about how Jesus would have felt in the Wilderness and how this helped him get closer to God.
Phonics
Miss Smillie’s Phonics Group – Find words ending in ‘ing’ and explore the three rules to add the suffix ‘ing’ to a word.
1) Taking off the ‘e’ e.g. love-loving, take-taking.
2) Doubling the consonant e.g. hop-hopping, sit-sitting.
3) Adding an ‘ing’ e.g. play-playing, say-saying.
Miss Hele’s/ Mrs Wickes’ Phonics Group- Find words with the /ow/ sound spelt ‘ow’, ‘ou’ and ‘ough’. Remember words are always spelt with ‘ow’ when followed by an ‘n’.
Miss Stinton’s Phonics Group- Practice spelling the tricky words: many, any, different, eyes, friends and laughed. Can you spot them in your reading books?
Maths
Choose two numbers like 9 and 15. Practice finding the difference between them using different skills like drawing a numberline and counting on from 9 to 15, the difference would be 6.

Home Learning 26.2.15
Thank you and well done to all the children who have sent in some very impressive home learning models, stories, timelines and posters. You have shown excellent commitment to learning at home!
RE
Think about what you could do at home to earn pennies and change to donate to a charity this Lent time.
Phonics
Please practice these topic words to use in our literacy writing:
modern, past, Tudor, Victorian, nowadays, century, present
Perhaps you could find some more words to practice which you have found difficult spelling during this project.
Maths
Practice number bonds to 10 (e.g. 5+5=10), 20 (e.g. 15+5=20) and 100 (e.g. 15+85=100). Encourage children to use their number bonds to 10 to solve number sentences like 24+16= (if I know 4+6=10 then I should be able to solve ‘24+16=’ by adding the tens and using my number bonds to add the units.

Welcome back…
We hope you all had a lovely half term.
Thank you for your donations of ‘junk’ for our DT project next week.
We now have more than enough so please don’t send any more in!
If you have been saving up your ‘junk’ at home perhaps you could allow the children a trial run of designing and making a mode of transport for a king or queen.
We hope you have recieved your liturgy invitations and look forward to seeing you at 10.15am on Tuesday 10th March.
Home Learning for Half Term
Please use the week over half term to carry on with your home learning pyramid projects and work on your online learning.
We look forward to a big show and tell of models and posters after half term.
Phonics
Please make sure you read every day over half term. This does not have to just be your school reading books but also library books, home reading books and information from the internet when you are working on your projects.
Maths
Please make sure you practice your 2x, 5x and 10x tables. If you know these off by heart then begin the 3x, 4x and 6x tables. Practice the four operations of +, -, x and ÷ by making your own number sentences, rolling dice of turning over digit cards.
