Another exciting week in year 2!
This week we haveĀ been working hard in maths learning how to add and subtract numbers using a number line.
In English we have continued reading the book Meerkat Mail and learning how to write our own post cards to Sunny which has been an enjoyable task for all learning some fantastic literacy skills.
We have enjoyed learning all about where children come from when sharing our home learning. We have also learnt what foods are best to eat to keep our bodies fit and healthy and creating a plate with foods to show this.
We are excited to take part in our CAFOD fun raising day on Thursday so please don’t forget to wear something bright and bring in a donation. Thank you š
Have a lovely weekend

A journey to Africa!
We had a fantastic beginning to our week with a trip to Africa in an aeroplane. I expect your children have been telling you all about it. We saw some excellent writing from their experience describing what they saw along the way.
It has been an excellent way to get the children hooked into our topic which is linked with the bookĀ Meerkat Mail. Children have been excited to find out all about Sunny, reading all his post cards from the different places he has visited. We are looking forward to writing our own postcard.
The children have been working hard in their maths learning with adding a oneĀ digit number to a two-digit number. Commitment has been shown from all the children to do their best in their work.
If you log in to the website www.mymaths.co.uk , the children have now been allocated homework on this site and their log in is in their diaries.
All children have now been given their Active LearnĀ log in where they can access bug club for reading homework and abacus for more maths learning. If you are still unsure how to access it please come and see Miss Allen or Mrs Layton who can help you with this.
It has been amazing to see so much home learning from the children. Well done to all š
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Our learning this week.
We have had a brilliant first full week back getting stuck into our new learning.
In maths we have been learning all about greater than and less than and understanding place value of numbers. We had such fun playing the base ten game together that we would like to share some photos with you š
We have created some beautiful writing in our English lessons. It has been lovely hearing all about the children’s summer holiday adventures in their recounts.
It has been a pleasure looking atĀ all the children’s home learning this week and seeing so many children taking part in the reading challenge at the library. A big well done to all the children for showing excellent commitment to their learning outside of school.
From all the year 2 team.
Miss Allen, Mrs Layton, Mrs Wickes, Mrs Spicer, Mrs Walls and Mrs King.

Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome back to the new year! Hope you all had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the glorious weather we were so lucky to have.
All the children have settled well into their new classrooms with their new teachers and have shown excellent commitment to their learning during their first week back.
We are excited for this upcoming year with lots of engaging topics being covered to hook the children into their learning.
Our first topic is ‘Where do I come from?’ This allows children to focus on where they live in the world in comparison to others.
We have sent the home learning home and we ask children to choose a few things to do to cover them over the term. We are not expecting children to complete all the tasks however it would be lovely for them to share a piece of home learning each week.
Please could you encourage reading at home as much as possible and record this in their home learning diaries.

Goodbye Year 2
So it is finally time for our goodbyes. This year has flown by. The children have worked amazingly hard to reach the new expectations set for year 2 children. It has not been an easy year. However, the children have taken it in their stride and we have had a lot of fun and laughs along the way. We are exceptionally proud of all 60 of our year 2 children!
We look forward to seeingĀ the childrenĀ settle in to their new classes in the Autumn term. I will be teaching RE to year 3 once a fortnight and so will look forward to catching up with them.
Most importantly though, we want to wish you all an amazing holiday. We hope that you all manage to catch up on some family time and have time to rest.
Finally we would just like to thank you all for your support this year and for the kind gifts that we have received. My fridge and wine rack are going to look very healthy – for a short time!
God bless you all, have a wonderful holiday.

Singing Concert
Yesterday Giraffe Class showed some mums and dads what they have been learning during their singing lessons. They sung beautifully, songs from around the world, that they have only been learning for a few weeks. The children thoroughly enjoyed the concert and I am sure mums and dads did too!
We thank Mrs. McKenzie once again for all her hard work and Elephant Class look forward to working with her next half term.
For the mums and dads who were unable to come to our concert here are some photos for you.
Staunton Country Park
We had a fabulous day at Staunton learning about different animals and their habitats! We particularly enjoyed exploring the rabbit and guinea pig habitats. We also saw a large African snail and stick insects. Some of us enjoyed feeding the lambs but it was rather scary when they charged at us for their milk bottles.
Although the day started out rather drizzly we were lucky enough to have a picnic in the afternoon.
Please continue to learn times tables and number facts at home. We are enjoying looking at the children’s home learning projects. Please remember we do not expect something every week. We have spoken to the children about ideas from the learning pyramid and they are aware that they could spend a few weeks on developing an idea before bringing it to school.
At last the sun seems to be remembering what to do during summer so we hope that you all have a lovely weekend.
Home Learning
https://blog.stpeterswaterlooville.co.uk/year1/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2016/04/disciples.pdf
Please remember that the above home learning is due into school on Wednesday 4th May 2016. This will form part of our lesson on the Wednesday afternoon and children will be expected to share something from which we can learn.
We have seen some lovely home learning in the last 2 weeks. A panda habitat (well done Esther), a hedgehog habitat (well done Amelia) and a minibeast habitat (well done Islwyn). Very creative – we look forward to seeing more of your creations.
In other news our caterpillars are growing fast and look like they may be beginning to make their cocoons. It is fascinating to watch as we continue to learn about habitats.
Also my apologies for the incorrect dates on the trip letter and I hope that you all received your parent mail. We are going to Staunton on the 11th May 2016!!
Have a fabulous long weekend, we look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday (don’t forget we have an INSET day on Tuesday).
Best wishes,
Mrs. Luter and Miss Allen
This Week in Year 2
This week we have been learning about habitats. We have even made our own habitats for woodlice. We investigated places around the school grounds to find out where woodlice live and then made our own choice chambers. Unfortunately our first group of woodlice escaped so we had to improve our experiment.
Some new classroom pets have arrived. They will help us to further learn about habitats, food chains and life cycles. Children explain what creatures we have in our classroom!
We have been learning how to use all of the different sentence types in our writing – see if your child can remember all 4. We were a bit confused about the new way of using an exclamation but have made excellent progress.
We look forward to seeing your child’s home learning there seems to be lots of projects on the go!
Have a happy weekend,
Mrs. Luter and Miss Allen
