Time Table Practise!

The children this week in maths have been playing games to help their recall of the 2, 5 and 10 times table facts.

We are encouraging children to continue practising at home to improve their speed.

Some children used Numicon to help them to visualise the 2 times table facts. We played a game as a group where they had to listen to the multiplication sentence said aloud and they had to race against their friends to use the tools to help them say the answer.

In English we have began looking at the story of Flat Stanley linked to our topic which is called ‘Where in the World?’. The children have enjoyed exploring the feelings of the different characters at each part in the story.

Just a reminder Year 2 have their Liturgy on Tuesday 12th March at 10.00am in the hall. You are all welcome to share this celebration with us.

We hope you all have a great weekend.

From the Year 2 team.

Welcome Back!

The children have had a great first week back with settling into learning so well.

They have enjoyed publishing their non-fiction Titanic texts for the Sea City Museum.

In maths we have been measuring objects around the room and understanding metres and centimetres. Encourage your children to talk about what measuring tool they would use to measure different objects around the house and why.

Please continue to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables with your children as next week we are making this a focus in maths for the children to be able to recall their facts quickly to solve problems.

Have a lovely weekend.

Poetry Competition!

Well done to all the children who put a huge amount of effort into learning a poem off by heart and then performed it in front of the year group!

These are the children that we have put forward to perform in front of the school to be in the chance to be the overall winner for year 2….

Evan Gray

Luca Dalmut-Rudd

Edie Swandell

Please could your children continue to read over the half term break and practise recalling their times table facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Hope you all have a lovely break.

STEM Day!

The children had a wonderful time in year 2 designing and creating their own catapult.

They had to test to see how many lolly pops would be best to use to make their object fly the furthest. They then used metre sticks to measure the distance.

We are continuing to problem solve with money in maths where the children have to find out how much change they get when they spend a certain amount.

In English we are beginning to write our non-fiction text about the Titanic.

Have a great week.

From the year 2 team.

Titanic Artifact Box!

The children had a great experience exploring the artifact box that had been delivered to our classrooms.

They asked lots of questions and then chose an object to write clues about for a friend to guess what it was.

The children have also enjoyed writing their Titanic diaries this week in English.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

From the year 2 team.

Sea City Museum

Year 2 had a wonderful time at the Sea City Museum learning about the tragic story of the Titanic.

Many thanks to all the parents that helped; without you our trips wouldn’t be able to go ahead.

Please keep practicing 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

From the year 2 team.

Science fun!

The children this week have been exploring by making gloop. They have been talking about the textures of different materials and what happens when they are mixed together.

In maths we have been focusing on the properties of 3D and 2D shapes. We have explored how many edges, vertices and faces 3D shapes have and how many corners and sides 2D shapes have.

In English we have been learning how to spell contractions

including: couldn’t, wouldn’t, can’t, won’t, I’m.

Our home learning this week is stuck in the children’s diaries:

Learn your 2 times table off by heart without counting up every time.

Challenge: learn linking division facts e.g. 16รท2=8

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

From the year 2 team.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the Spring term. The children have settled back into their learning with positive attitudes.

The children came into the classroom and found lots of crumbs from a cracker on the floor. The children then wrote letters to the cleaners asking them questions about how the crumbs got into our classroom.

We then began reading Samson’s Titanic Journey and making predictions about how the story might end.

In maths we have been partitioning numbers in different ways for example —

76 could be partitioned into 60 + 16 = 76

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

From the year 2 team.

2A Music Concert!

What a great end to this half term with the children performing their music concert to their families. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and join us.

The children also enjoyed learning in English about not using glitter in reindeer food! They all wrote an information leaflet to inform others to use other ingredients to attract Rudolph and his friends on Christmas eve.

Thank you to all the families that came in and listened to their children read their wonderful Christmas stories that they wrote.

Hope you all have a lovely break.

Happy Christmas and best wishes for the new year!

From the year 2 team.

Nativity!

We all want to say a huge well done to all the children in years 1 and 2 for their outstanding performance of their Nativity this year. We are proud of each and every one of them for all the effort they put in. Thank you again for all of your support with helping to get them ready for it.

This week the children have completed their Christmas stories and are looking forward to sharing them with their families next Wednesday afternoon at 2.45pm in the year 2 classrooms.

In maths we have been looking at multiplication linked with division.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
