Please carry on learning about nocturnal animals. Can you look for different animals around your house and neighbourhood this weekend? Can you look in the garden at night time and see if you can spot any hedgehogs, foxes, owls or other nocturnal animals?
Phonics
Miss Smillie’s Phonics Group – Use the ‘ful’ suffix to change base nouns like ‘care’, ‘play’, ‘rest’, ‘mouth’ into words like ‘playful’, ‘painful’.
How does it change the meaning of the word? Look at words with the ‘ly’ suffix. Can you sort them by how the base word has been changed?
Miss Hele’s/ Mrs Wickes’ Phonics Group– Practice writing sentences using the ‘n’/’ng’ sound e.g. ‘sing’, ‘thing’, ‘thin’, shin’. Practice spelling tricky words from my home learning diary.
Miss Stinton’s Phonics Group– Find words with different spellings of the /ee/ sound – ‘e_e, ‘ey’, ‘y’, ‘ea’, ‘ei’, ‘e’, ‘eo’, and ‘ie’.Which is the most common? Can you find which spelling is usually found in the middle or at the end of words?

Children have a new Home Learning Adventure Book with the Pyramid of activities for the topic.
Please spend some time looking through the pyramid and thinking about what you are going to have a go at this coming term.

Think about making your Lenten promises as a family. What other things can you do to distract you from temptations during Lent? Perhaps plan some family time away from the TV or games consoles!

Maths
During our mental maths today, a lot of children still struggled to ‘find the difference’ between two numbers. Please practice finding the difference between numbers like 11 and 4 or 5 and 13. You can put the smaller number in your head and then count on using your fingers to the larger number. As a number sentence this would look like:
4 + ___ = 11 or 11 = 4 + ___ or 11 – ___ = 4 or 4 = 11 – ___

Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken!
We had some very exciting visitors in Year Two this afternoon!
It was Reception’s last day with their ‘Living Eggs’ so we borrowed them for half an hour to cuddle and get to know a little bit more about the lifecycle of a chicken.
It was very egg-citing!

World Book Day
Thank you everyone for your amazing contributions to World Book Day. The costumes were, as always, fantastic and very creative!

Try to give up something this weekend that you really love doing like watching TV or playing on your games consoles. Think about how Jesus would have felt in the Wilderness and how this helped him get closer to God.
Phonics
Miss Smillie’s Phonics Group – Find words ending in ‘ing’ and explore the three rules to add the suffix ‘ing’ to a word.
1) Taking off the ‘e’ e.g. love-loving, take-taking.
2) Doubling the consonant e.g. hop-hopping, sit-sitting.
3) Adding an ‘ing’ e.g. play-playing, say-saying.
Miss Hele’s/ Mrs Wickes’ Phonics Group- Find words with the /ow/ sound spelt ‘ow’, ‘ou’ and ‘ough’. Remember words are always spelt with ‘ow’ when followed by an ‘n’.
Miss Stinton’s Phonics Group- Practice spelling the tricky words: many, any, different, eyes, friends and laughed. Can you spot them in your reading books?
Maths
Choose two numbers like 9 and 15. Practice finding the difference between them using different skills like drawing a numberline and counting on from 9 to 15, the difference would be 6.

Please practice these topic words to use in our literacy writing:
modern, past, Tudor, Victorian, nowadays, century, present
Perhaps you could find some more words to practice which you have found difficult spelling during this project.
Maths
Practice number bonds to 10 (e.g. 5+5=10), 20 (e.g. 15+5=20) and 100 (e.g. 15+85=100). Encourage children to use their number bonds to 10 to solve number sentences like 24+16= (if I know 4+6=10 then I should be able to solve ‘24+16=’ by adding the tens and using my number bonds to add the units.

If you have been saving up your ‘junk’ at home perhaps you could allow the children a trial run of designing and making a mode of transport for a king or queen.
