Literacy: I could write instructions telling someone how to wrap a present. Don’t forget your time words!

Numeracy: I could make a Christmas decoration using interesting shapes.

RE: I could think about peace and how I could help bring peace to others. I could also write a prayer about love to share in collective worship next week.

Phonics

Miss Smillie: Spell contraction words e.g. It’s, I’ve, let’s, we’ve, couldn’t, didn’t etc. How many can you use in 1 sentence?

Miss Stinton: Listen to all the sounds in a word when I sound it out e.g. chestnut, sleigh, Christmas

Miss Hele & Mrs Wickes: Practice spelling Christmassy words e.g. chestnut, cracker, Rudolf, Christmas, jingle bell, roast, stocking.

Home Learning

Literacy: I could start an Advent diary at home to keep track of my preparations for the coming of Jesus.

Numeracy: I could practice using a ruler to measure and draw lines and shapes.

RE: I could use real leaves and holly to make an Advent wreath. I could think about each of the candles in the wreath and what they represent.

 

Phonics

Miss Smillie: Spell words with the prefix un- e.g. unsatisfied, unhappy, unimpressed, unfortunately

Miss Stinton: Sound detective- look for words with the split digraph i_e in e.g. slide, glide, tribe.

Miss Hele: Different spellings of the ‘oa’ sound e.g. o_e, oe, ow, o, oa

Mrs Wickes: Different spellings of the ‘oo’ sound e.g. ew, oo, ue, u_e

Our Home Learning This Week

THIS WEEK IS ANTI-BULLYING WEEK!!!

We are excited to have special guest visitors holding assemblies this week to help us learn more about how we can stay safe, appreciate others and love how special and different we are! Mrs D is holding an anti-bullying competition in the library and we will be looking at what we can do to fight against bullying in our school and community.

Perhaps you might like to design a poster, write a short story or poem about anti-bullying and bring it in to share?

Miss Smillie:

Write sentences that use the days of the week! Please practice spelling each day and writing them in sentences. Remember, they always have a capital letter and watch out for the tricky spellings!

Miss Stinton:

Practice spelling: said, what, why, when, he, she, with

Mrs Wickes and Miss Hele:

Write words that use the /oa/ sound e.g. boat, coat, sew, so, doughnuts, smoke, potatoes, slow

Next week we will be learning about:

In numeracy we will be looking at pictograms.

You could perhaps create your own pictogram at home of which mode of transport you use to travel anywhere next week. e.g. 8 times in a car, 3 times walking, twice cycling etc.

In literacy we will be focusing on anti-bullying and how everyone is special and different.

In RE will be learning about Ramadan and the special ways Muslims prepare for this time of the year.

Thank you for coming to see us playing our Ukuleles! We loved showing you our new musical talents and felt proud of what we had achieved. We hope Elephant class enjoy learning the Ukulele next half term as much as we did!

Practice spelling the next 100 high frequency words that you have been given in class this week.

Miss Stinton:

Write sentences using the tricky words – looked, called and asked.

Mrs Wickes and Miss Hele:

Write sentences using the tricky words- little, one, do, what, when, out

 

Next week we will be learning about:

In numeracy we will be learning how to tell the time.

You can prepare for this be practising counting in 5s around an analogue clock and start to look at O’clock and half past times.

In literacy we will be starting our diary writing unit. We plan to keep diaries of our daily routines, thoughts and feelings. Perhaps you could keep a diary over the half term?!

In RE will be learning about St. Martin. You could research his life and find out why he became a Saint.

 Next week we will be looking at even and odd numbers in maths and the patterns we can see with number.

RE will be focusing on ‘Prayer, Saints and Feasts’ which you can find in your home learning book. As I am sure you all know, it is the month of October which focuses on Mary and we have also been looking at how she is special to us and God.

WEEK BEGINNING 6/10/14

MATHS

In numeracy we will be looking at how to add and subtract accurately using a bead string and numberline.

In literacy we will be writing facts about the Titanic and putting them into catergories.

RE

We will be starting Prayers, Saints and Feasts. You will see in your yellow home learning diaries that there is a page with vocabulary and learning for this topic.

THIS WEEK (Week beginning 22/9/14)

MATHS

In maths we have been learning about how to add numbers to make 10, 20 and 30

e.g. 2 + 3 + 5 = 10           14 + 1 + 10 + 5 = 30

LITERACY

In literacy we have been learning how to ask and write questions using the question words:

‘What, When, Where, Why, How’ and making sure we use question marks (?).

RE

We have been looking at the story of Noah’s Ark.

 

NEXT WEEK (Week beginning 29/9/14)

MATHS

In maths we will be looking at how many groups of/lots of 2,3,4, 5 and 10 go into 10,20 and 30

e.g. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10    so 5 lots of 2 make 10 (5 x 2 = 10)

we will also be looking at counting accurately in 2,3,4 and 5 from 0.

LITERACY

In literacy we will be looking at features of non-fiction texts linked to the Titanic and start to create our own non-fiction information texts on the Titanic.

RE

We will be looking at multicultural links in RE and focusing on the Jewish festival of Sukkot.
