Reading
Please continue to read daily for 10 – 15 minutes.

Writing – Look at the picture below:

Sick sentences

These sentences are ‘sick’ and need help to get better. Can you improve them?

A lion sat on the van. A giraffe put his head out through the window. The zebra walked across the road.

For example: The old, patient lion perched on top of the van.

Sentence challenge

Can you use verbs and adverbs to describe what each of the animals in the picture are doing?

For example: The lion gazes patiently into the distance.

Question time:

  1. How do you think the Orangutan is feeling?
  2. Why could all the animals be together?
  3. Which animal would you choose to work in the health clinic? Why?
  4. If you could be any animal, which would you be and why?

Up for a challenge?

Imagine you are a visitor in Animal Town. Try to describe your experience.

Art Home Learning Task

This week I would like you to create something with a paper plate.  Please don’t worry if you do not have one at home you can just draw around a plate and then cut it out.

I would like you to link it to the country that your Year Group is studying, so here are some ideas.  However, any creation would be wonderful.

Please email a photo of your artwork to me and I will share it on the Art Blog.

Keep creating and keep safe!

Writing:

As our school trip was cancelled, we are going to be writing an information sheet about the Titanic. See below the letter we have already shared with the children.

Dear the pupils of St Peter’s Catholic Primary School.

We are writing to you to tell you how disappointed we are that we did not get the opportunity to see you today. We have heard from your teachers that you are incredibly knowledgeable about the Titanic already and that you have all learnt so much about it both at home and in school.
We hope you won’t mind helping us. Please could you design and create an information sheet for us all about Titanic. The aim of this information sheet would be to help other visitors to the museum learn all about Titanic herself.

Please ensure your writing includes lots of description in order for the other visitors to have a clear image of The Titanic imprinted in their mind.

Thank you for your help,
The Sea City Museum

Your information MUST include:

  • Title
  • Subheadings
  • Illustrations
  • Facts
  • Conjunctions

Please feel free to make your information sheets bright, bold and creative.

Sea City Museum Video Tour

We were so sorry that we had to cancel our trip to Sea City Museum in Southampton but delighted to hear from the kind staff at Sea City Museum who have recorded and sent us a video tour.

They are also working on a virtual art gallery which we will forward on to you when we receive it.

We

This week in Year 2

Thank you to all those who attended our Liturgy on Tuesday. We thoroughly enjoyed our time worshipping with you.

In Maths this week, we have continued to work on Fractions finding half, quarter and three-quarters of amounts. We have started to revise division and the children are becoming much more fluent with their 2, 5 and 10 times table. Please continue to practise times tables and number facts at home.

In English, we have been planning our letters to home as if we were Samson or the Captain of the Titanic. The children have been writing in first person and have focused on how they would have felt during this traumatic event.

Have a fabulous weekend!

The Year 2 Team

Professor Cranium

Last week six of our Year 2 pupils were invited to attend the Professor Cranium event at Crookhorn School. Using all their critical thinking skills, their ability to reflect on their learning, and fabulous team work, the children solved many mind puzzling challenges. The event was run as a competition and we are delighted to say our Year 2 children came in 2nd place. In addition to this, we are very proud that their wonderful manners were noted by the organisers . Well done Year 2, you’ve done us proud!
