Easter home learning
As it is the Easter holidays next week we have a slightly different format for home learning for the next 2 weeks. We still expect children to continue learning the sounds they know and apply these in their writing. We also expect all children to continue reading every day. Children should still be practising their recognition and ordering of numbers up to 20. In addition to this children have 2 RE learning challenges. Please click on the link below:
Grown-ups, please check your emails for a ‘How to guide’ on Tapestry. It gives you step by step instructions on how to download the app and add observations of your child so we can continue the home school link at this uncertain time. We really would love for all parents to be uploading things to Tapestry as its a great way to continue the children’s learning. It also gives us the opportunity to respond to the children’s home learning positively and provide additional support if it is needed.
Enjoy the Easter holidays. Hopefully, you’ll get to eat some yummy chocolate!
Thank you, The Early Years Team.
Reading Challenge 2020
We received this email form Hampshire School Library Service.
Hampshire SLS would like to encourage all pupils to read during this stay at home period. Why not take part in our #ReadAtHome challenge? We are asking pupils to read 6 books (although you can read more if you wish) and submit a short review for each title here. If you run out of books at home, why not try the great range of titles on the SLS ePlatform?
You can direct your pupils to our Moodle Homepage to complete their review. Once completed pupils can download a certificate, which will be made available shortly!
Here is the website:

Happy reading! Do let us know if your child joins in with this by putting a photo on Tapestry 😃
Holy Week and Easter Art
Mrs Pearson our school art leader has set some tasks for the children to do during Easter.
Make or draw either a cross or an Easter egg, then decorate it using a variety of different materials that you find around your house.
Fancy something different:
Create your own Easter Garden, include a simple cross, cave/tomb, add flowers and/or seeds that will grow over Easter.
Email your art work to Mrs Pearson and put it on Tapestry for your teachers to see:

STEM ideas
Here is an idea to engage your child in STEM.
The term stands for –
Science
Technology
Engineering
Maths
I have found some fun, simple STEM ideas you can do at home with your child, remember it’s all about having FUN, you don’t need to be a scientist, an expert in technology, an engineer, or a mathematician. I will be sharing a new idea each week to engage your child with.
Please share any photos/videos on Tapestry for us to see.
Online resources
Here is a website where you can register for free and have access to ebooks for your child to read.
Follow the link below
https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+4-5&level=&level_select=&book_type=&series=#
Please also encourage your child to log into Sumdog (passwords sent individually through Tapestry) where your child can play games which develop their mathematical skills. It also supports the phonics sound that you teach each day by your child reading words related to the sound they are focusing on.
New challenges are added weekly so please encourage them to log in frequently.
We are enjoying seeing all the learning that has been put onto Tapestry already, it is a great way for us to see how your child is progressing and helps us to know what further support we can give whilst they are learning at home.
Keep smiling and having fun with your children through this tricky time 😊
Activities based on the story What The Ladybird Heard
This morning I have come across this fantastic resource particularly for children who love Julia Donaldson stories, which I know many of your children do.
Each day there is an activity based on the story What the Ladybird Heard and can be completed without the book.
Have lots of creative fun and remember to share it with us on Tapestry 😊

Farm visit
We have just received this email from the farm who sadly couldn’t visit us today. Please share with your child and encourage them to draw a picture of an animal of their choice that they see and write a sentence about it and share it with us on Tapestry. 😊
Hi
I am just popping a farm film onto our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MillCottageFarm/ for you seeing as we haven’t been to your school today.
Enjoy!
Best wishes

Home learning from Friday 27th March
Good evening Seahorse and Starfish,
We hope you have had a good a week and have enjoyed your home learning activities! It has been lovely to see so many of you upload your learning to Tapestry. Mrs Conlon, Miss Deacon, Mrs Aquilina and Mrs King have all enjoyed logging on to find out what you have been up to. We have seen some lovely animal creations, from making your collages from stones, grass and flowers to drawing and painting your favourite animals. We have also seen children make cup phones and making repeating patterns when going out for a walk! Such great learning!
Here are your new home learning activities. This includes the rainbow challenges and the phonics learning. Remember to ask your child what phonics group they are in. Just click on the link below to view the home learning activities:
Please upload any learning to Tapestry.
There is also the opportunity for you to make use of 2 very good educational websites as they have released logins for parents to support learning at home.
- www.phonicsplay.co.uk – This will support your child’s learning in phonics. It is something we use at school so the children should be familiar with it. The log in is: Username: march20 Password: home
- www.twinkl.co.uk/offer – Twinkl is offering parents a month of free access to support them during this uncertain time. This website has a wealth of activities to support your child’s learning, be sure to press the EYFS tab at the top of the toolbar. The free access code is: PARENTSTWINKLHELPS
