Our Year 1 children have been learning about the wonderful story of Creation and exploring the beauty and wonder of the world around us. They are excited to share some of their learning, creativity and reflections with you.

We have had a busy week in Year 1. We have continued our ‘Three Bears’ unit in Music and have enjoyed learning the lyrics to ‘Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear’. We explored high and low sounds and created actions to each line. The children had great fun!

In PE, we have continued to practise our Fundamental skills. We have been developing our core strength and controlling how our bodies move.

The first few weeks have been very exciting in Year 1! The children are continuing to settle well and are adapting well to new classrooms and staff. We have been working hard revisiting some key learning from Reception and are beginning to build upon these foundations.

Phonics

The children are now in their phonics groups and will have phonics lessons daily. A reading book will be sent home every Monday and will be changed weekly. Please ensure you read with your child at least three times a week and sign the reading record book.

English

We have introduced our first traditional tale to the children which is The Three Little Pigs. The children enjoyed trying to guess what the topic was from the different objects and materials we gave to them. We have begun working on simple sentences and using our phonics to help us spell.

Maths

We have re-introduced numbers to 10 and have begun exploring numbers to 20. Children have been making numbers practically using a range of resources and have been learning one more and one less.
