Building Connection Through Everyday Moments

“Tell me about the best part of your day!” 😊

Life can be busy, but some of the most important moments for a child’s well-being happen during everyday conversations. Whether it’s chatting on the walk to school, talking over dinner, drawing together, or sharing a story before bed, these small moments help children feel valued, heard and understood.

Children do not always say, “I’m worried” or “I’m feeling sad.” Instead, their thoughts and feelings often come out naturally when they feel relaxed and connected to the adults around them.

Try swapping “How was school today?” for questions like:

⭐ What made you smile today?
⭐ Did you help someone today?
⭐ What was the most interesting thing you learned?
⭐ Was anything tricky today?
⭐ What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

These simple questions can open the door to meaningful conversations and help children build confidence in talking about their feelings.

For children, knowing that a trusted adult is ready to listen can make a huge difference. For parents, remember that you do not need to have all the answers. Sometimes, listening carefully, showing interest, and spending a few extra minutes together is all a child needs.

So this week, challenge yourself to create a little “chat time” each day. You might be surprised by the wonderful stories, ideas and feelings your child chooses to share.

💛 A few minutes of conversation can make a lasting difference to a child’s well-being.
