This week we have enjoyed exploring materials. A mermaid wrote to us to say she had lost some of her scales and needed us to find a way to make her new ones that are waterproof, bumpy, strong and shiny. The children tested the materials in the water and then used the language to describe the properties.

The children then wrote to the mermaid to explain what material they thought was best to use for her scales and why.

The children also really enjoyed getting into role as a mermaid and imagining they were swimming through the ocean looking at different sea creatures.

The children also enjoyed experience touching and feeling a real fish that we bought into school to explore. We talked about what adjectives we could use to describe the texture and smell of the fish.

The children had a great time at their Sports Day this week. All children worked really hard to partake as a team.

This week we have been looking at the book the snail and the whale! We have been making whale art from paper palates and making a slit in the plate so the whale can move. Some children even decorated the plate with paint and paper to represent the whale swimming under water.

The weather has been beautiful this week so lots of children did discovery outside. Some of the boys worked together to create a car track from rain pipe tubes and Experiment with the angle of the tube and how fast the car would move. They even added water to make it a water track!

We have been exploring the concept of sharing amounts equally in maths. We have been using teddy’s on a picnic with plates to do practise sharing. The children pretended that the multilink was different foods like blackberries, blueberries and strawberries!

This week the children have enjoyed listening to the story Supertato. They have enjoyed being creative and making their own characters from the story.

In maths the children have been exploring doubling amounts using the peas in the tuff tray! We linked them with the evil peas in the Supertato story. The children have also been learning about how to halve numbers.

In literacy the children have been retelling parts of the Supertato stories by looking at pictures from the book and using their phase 3 sounds to write sentences.

In RE the children learnt about Pentecost. They listened to the story and then used the parachute to imitate the Holy Spirit coming by making wind and then sitting underneath the parachute to feel the Holy Spirit all around.

This week we have been learning all about superheros. We read the book Superhero Hotel and then discussed what super power we would have! The children have been busy making masks and outfits.

The children have also been writing about what superhero powers they would like to have.

Outside the children have been shooting superheros with water and reading the tricky words!

The children remembered their Learning from last week and used some creates and planks of wood to make their own car and drove to get a McDonald’s!

In maths, the children have been continuing to practise counting using the pennies as well as learning about doubling numbers.

This week in maths we have been focusing on money. The children have been writing their own price tags and using money to buy things from their shop.

In literacy the children have enjoyed acting as police officers writing speeding tickets and signs to tell people how to ride on the roads. They have also been designing their own vehicles, making them and labelling the features.

After learning about road safety And how to keep safe on the roads and even walking near roads the children wrote posters telling others children how to stay safe!

The children have also enjoyed making music outside using the instruments and writing their own music notes to follow.

We had a short and sweet week this week. The children loved the dragon so much he stuck around this week to, although a princess asked for some protection so the children had to come up with ways to entice the dragon to help protect the princess!

The children followed instructions to make their very own dragon for expressive arts and design this week!

The children were introduced to the concept of taking away. We have had some super learners this week and challenged themselves with number sentences!

On the sunny days the children have been exploring outside, one child found some worms and was able to to use his mathematical thinking skills to identify which one was the longest and which one was the shortest.

The children were very excited this week to watch a video of a dragon that came into our playground and burnt some of the pathway! They were keen to write wanted posters to tell others what they had seen and to see if the dragon could be captured.

During discovery time the children chose to write their own stories about dragons and shared them with the rest of the class. Here are some examples of their fantastic writing:

Outside for discovery time, the children worked together and built traps to capture the dragon as they wanted him to come back to visit.

In maths the children have continued with adding amounts to 20 using Numicon and other various counting objects. Here are some photos of their great learning:

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The children have settled back into school really well.
They have enjoyed reading the story Jasper’s Beanstalk. We have planted seeds in the outdoor area and have been talking about what is needed to grow a plant. The children then wrote their own lists of things they need and instructions on how to do it.
In maths the children counted beans and matched them to the numbers on the pots as well as cutting and sticking beanstalks in height order.

Please continue to read daily with your children at home and record it in their diaries so we can issue a certificate for when they read 20 times.

In literacy we enjoyed listening to the story ‘We’re going on an egg hunt’. The children then made their own eggs, hid them in the outdoor area and then drew their own maps and wrote sentences to explain where they had hid the eggs for their friend to find. Here are some photos of their learning:
