Sporting Success and Ancient Myths

This week we celebrated sporting success with Maddie’s synchro swim team coming 2nd in a national competition in Sheffield and Chloe celebrating the end of a successful football season with a Player’s Player award. Congratulations to them and to all those who have taken part in a sporting team this year.

5SC added the final touches to their history work depicting the ancient Egyptian myths of Osirus, Isis, Seth and Horus.

Final weekly reminders for Year 5:

No home learning has been set this week, so is completed for this year – thank you to you all for encouraging your child to practise and consolidate their weekly learning and reading as this has had a real impact on their progress in school.

Reading using the Sora website/app will be available over the holidays and the children have been encouraged to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge through their local library.

End of the summer term – Thursday 20th July at 1.30pm

Enjoy your weekend,

The Year 5 Team

In Pursuit of Greatness

Another busy week flies by in Year 5…

This week the Year 5 children have had a taster of a day in the life of a Year 6 in their transition morning on Monday and all day on Friday.

In topic this week, we deepened our understanding of Egyptian myths. We retold the myth of the story of Osiris, Isis and Seth by creating a comic strip.

In our RE this week we have continued our learning on ‘Sacraments’ by thinking about how can we, as Christians, live our lives according to these interpretations of God’s will?

Finally, we finished our final tennis lesson for this term. The children’s forehand and backhand skills have vastly improved since the beginning of the term and they successfully kept high rally scores between themselves and their partner.

Reminders for next week:

  • Homework is set, alongside TT rockstars and SumDog
  • Book review is due in on Thursday please
  • Children have been given their SORA app logins to enjoy many many books over the summer holidays, including audiobooks which the children are very excited about!

Have a lovely weekend,

Year 5 team
