Week 4 – Friday 30th June 2017

This week the children have been developing their understanding of converting between units of measure and they have completed their LAST half termly PAM test. In English, they have been encouraged to decide upon the purpose, audience and layout for their final piece of writing (Ancient Egypt theme).

 

For homework the children have 6 spellings from a test that was completed this week; Mymaths, they need to complete a section from the homework pyramid and research their chosen topic area for Literacy. This homework is due by next Friday (7th July). Children are more than welcome to bring their homework in early if they have completed it.

 

This week Joana Lopez De Sousa (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her for always being a lovely member of the class’ and Lauren Forssman (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Sophie Barker (5F) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to support her friends and cheer them up.’ Jeffrey Mamman Mathew (5F) has his work on the showstoppers wall too.

 

Thank you to all parents, carers and friends who came to support the children at Sports Day. We were very lucky with the weather, the rain arriving much later than expected and all the children seemed to have had an enjoyable morning of activities.

Week 3 – 23rd June 2017

This week the children have been developing their understanding of multiplying proper fractions by whole numbers and mixed numbers by whole numbers. In English, they have been writing, editing, improving and publishing their persuasive letters (Ancient Egypt theme).

 

For homework the children have 6 spellings with the ‘au’ sound; Mymaths and they need to complete a section from the homework pyramid. This homework is due by next Friday (30th June). Children are more than welcome to bring their homework in early if they have completed it.

 

This week Elizabeth Moore (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her for always being a happy, smiley member of the class and having a good sense of humour’ and Onjoro Sumba (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Wendy Wheatley (5F) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to be spiritual in her work.’ Hannah Oliver (5F) has her work on the showstoppers wall too.

 

Just a reminder, 5F will be going on their trip to Staunton Country Park on Monday. Please can children remember to bring: lunch box, drink bottle, sensible shoes, sensible walking trousers, coat, hat and sun cream.

Week 2 – 16th June 2017

This week the children have been developing their understanding of adding and subtracting fractions (with same and different denominators), as well as converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Some children have been problem solving and explaining their reasoning in order to deepen their understanding of these topics. In English, they have been reinforcing their understanding of persuasive language and they have begun to write their persuasive letter based on The Scarab’s Secret.

 

For homework the children have 6 spellings using ending in ‘-ssion’ (‘soft sh sound’); Mymaths and they need to complete the next section from the homework pyramid. This homework is due by next Friday (23rd June). Children are more than welcome to bring their homework in early if they have completed it.

 

This week Samuel Ford (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him for working hard and trying his best to improve his writing’ and Joana Lopez De Souza (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Samuel Clarke (5F) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him to always be a cheerful member and extremely hard working individual. He always has a positive attitude towards all aspects of his learning’. Wendy Wheatley (5F) has her work on the showstoppers wall too.

 

Just a reminder, 5E will be going on their trip to Staunton Country Park on Monday. We have explained to both classes that they will need to wear: sensible trousers (no shorts due to the possibility of ticks), appropriate walking shoes, their school t-shirt, hat and rain coat (just in case of poor weather). Please bring sun cream.

5F will be going the following Monday (26th).

Week 6 – 9th June 2017

This week the children have been developing their understanding of ordering and rounding decimals to 3 decimal places. The have also been converting fractions, decimals and percentages, solving word problems using all three. In English, they have been finding the features of a persuasive text and working on improving the range of clauses they can create.

 

For homework the children have 6 spellings using ending in ‘ary’, ‘ory’ and ‘ery’; Mymaths and they need to complete a section from the homework pyramid. This homework is due by next Friday (16th June). Children are more than welcome to bring their homework in early if they have completed it.

 

This week Lee Huxley (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him for always trying his best in everything he does and being a helpful member of the class’ and Eva Townsin (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Cerys Colley (5F) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to always be a cheerful member of the class. Skye Nichols (5F) has her work on the showstoppers wall too.

 

Just a reminder, the children need to remember to return their forms for the Staunton trip by next Friday.
