Hello From The Year 1 Team!

We are having a great time in year 1!

We Are To Become Authors!

In year 1, we have been planning our own stories for the cartoon libraryschool library.    We have been thinking about what characters could be in our story and using adjectives to describe them.  Next we are going to be planning our setting ready for when we write our story after the half term.  We are all very excited about becoming authors!

In numeracy we have enjoyed learning about cartoon pizzafractions.  We have been experimenting our fraction knowledge with halving and moving onto quarters.

cartoon reading bookReading has been a blast!  We have been reading with our teachers and friends and we are becoming more confident as the days and weeks go by.  A big pat on the back to all of us in year 1!cartoon smile

Hello From The Year 1 Team!

Hello Parents, Grandparents and Carers,

A massive thank you for all who came to our Liturgy.  We had a fabulous attendance of very proud parents and grandparents.

We have had a fantastic week learning all about our bears.

The children have enjoyed writing adjectives to describe their bear and sketching their bears using  different shading techniques.

We have been measuring our friends and bears using different objects.  That was really fun!

Thank you to you all for the wonderful home learning.  The children have really enjoyed sharing their home learning with their teachers and friends.

Remember to continue learning your phase 3,4 and 5 sounds from letters and sounds.  You can find all the sounds at the beginning of the Home Learning Diaries.

Next week we are looking forward to continuing our journey about bears and a picnic!

Have a great weekend!

From the Year 1 Team

What a busy week we have had in Year 1!

This week we have had a fun filled week in Year 1.  We have been writing in our  ‘All About Me’ all about mebooks, what we like about school and our favourite food.  In numeracy we have been learning to count forwards, backwards, more and less.  The children’s confidence is growing daily and it is a joy to see.

Well done for all your home learning.  The children enjoyed sharing what they had learnt with their friends this afternoon.  Please remember that Home Learning Diary’s and their reading books need to be in school every day.

We are beginning our ‘Bear’ topicbear next week so could your child please bring their bear to school for Monday.  We would appreciate it if their bear could stay in school all week so the children can share their learning with their bear.  Thank you!

We have been practising for our liturgy and we  hope you received the invitation from your child.  We will look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday 22nd September at 10.15 in our school hall.

Continue to read as often as you can with your child and to practise their letters and sounds Phase 3, 4 and 5.

Have a super weekend and we will look forward to hearing all about their adventures in their Home Learning Journal’s next Friday.

From the Year 1 Team.

Thank you to all the grown ups who helped to organise the day. It has really inspired the children to learn about France and to learn to speak French.

We are nearly there! 4 school days to go. The children are very excited about their Summer holiday but are still working hard. Today we are creating a Beat Box version of the Grand Old Duke of York in time for a whole school challenge tomorrow to end our Arts Week!

Mrs. Allen and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all your support throughout Year 1. We have had so much fun this year and will really miss the children. I am lucky enough to be moving to Year 2 with the children and am looking forward to seeing them in September and hearing all about their long, well deserved, holiday.

Look out for a special Summer holiday learning adventure that will be coming home on Monday. We would like the children to keep a scrap book / diary of their time away from school. Please also continue to read regularly (don’t forget the Waterlooville library challenge and Bug Club). Please also continue to practise number facts such as bonds, halves and doubles, odd and even, tens and units (how many tens in the number 35? How many units?). Count in different multiples – 2s, 5s, 10s and play the games on Abacus. It really does make a difference if you continue to practise these skills. It can all be done in a fun way and we most importantly want your children to have a fun filled holiday with time spent with their families.

All the best, see you in September!

God bless.

Mrs. Luter

Quadkids!

Today ten children from year 1 represented at our school at a local schools sports competition. They took part in running races, jumping and throwing. We were very proud of their performance and sportsmanship. Well done children!101_1399

St Peter’s ‘Fest’ Preparation!

Well the day has arrived! Today we have spent the day preparing our stall for  St. Peter’s ‘Fest’. We have been given £20 to invest to see how much money we can make. We have made about 200 bags of popcorn which we are going to sell for 50p. We are hoping to do really well with our ‘Junior Apprentice’ challenge.

We have made labels and leaflets and worked out how much change we will need when we are given different amounts to pay for the popcorn.

So roll up! Come and visit our stall at St. Peter’s ‘Fest’ tonight from 5.30. We also have a singing treat for you – ‘The Three Pigs’ live on stage!

See you there!

Kindness Day!

Today in school we celebrated Kindness Day by showing extra kindness on the playground. We were then very lucky to have 2 year 6 children come to share stories about being kind.
