Welcome to Year One!
Well done Turtles and Pufferfish, you have completed the first three days of Year one!
We have all really enjoyed learning new facts about our class animals and writing out what we have learnt.
We have also loved reading each other summer learning journeys, thank you for putting so much effort in to completing them.
Reading
All children have been read with and have now been given reading books to take home. It is essential in Year One that children are read with as often as possible.
Phonics
This week we have been revisiting Phase 3 sounds. Please practice these sounds and words-
ai: mail, drain, hail, bait
igh: fight, night, light, sight
oa: goat, boat, coat, shoal
Numeracy
Next week we will be starting to explore one more and one less than a given number. For example- what is one more than 12?
Remember
This Monday, 12th September 4pm-5pm will be the Year One welcome meeting. The year One teachers will go through the topics of the Year, dates for the diary, useful information and answering any questions you may have. It would be lovely and helpful to have as many parents as possible to attend. Any vital information will be posted onto the blog for parents who can not attend.
Mary Garden Goodness
Our French beans have grown! Only last week they were flowering and thanks to all the rain, the beans have grown at an enormous rate and are ready to be harvested. Over the next few weeks there will be plenty to enjoy!
Our peas are at the flowering stage so it won’t be too long now before we can enjoy those too.
London Calling!
What a busy start to the new term!
As I’m sure your children have told you, we have started our new London topic enthusiastically! The classrooms are taking shape with interesting role- play areas and topic boards and we have already been using our knowledge of London to write fact sheets and draw maps!
Hello Dolphins and Turtles
What did the ladybird hear? Year 1 have been finding out all about it! We have loved reading the wonderful Julia Donaldson book ‘What the ladybird heard’. We have made posters and written our own version of the story.
We enjoyed programming BeeBots around a map using half and quarter turns in our directions.
We have also been amazed as we continue to watch our plants grow.
Hello Turtles and Dolphins!
We have begun our new topic ‘The Great Outdoors’ and have thoroughly embrace the outside. We have been planting pea, cornflowers, cress, spinach and bean seeds and the Year 1 area is looking like a greenhouse!
We have been slowly taking over the Mary Garden and the children have been taking their learning out into the sunshine.
Welcome Back!
It was great to see so many refreshed faces yesterday and the children had lots of stories to tell about their Easter holidays.
This half term we will be learning about habitats. The home learning pyramid is attached and will also be sent home in your child’s home learning adventure book.
I have also attached the RE home learning, also in your child’s home learning adventure.
Click on attachments below.
We look forward to updating you all about our time in school soon.
