VE Day Celebrations

The children enjoyed wearing red, white and blue today and having a picnic on the field to celebrate. We had a one minutes silence to mark the celebration. They also enjoyed dancing and singing from SD Studios and the school choir. Proud of some of our year one children who took part.

Summer term

The children enjoyed exploring with the money this week. They used the money to count out amounts to buy things from our pretend shop.

In PE we have been practising our ball skills.

End of Spring Term

In maths the children have been exploring coins. They have been sorting them into different groups as well as adding coins to make different amounts.

We had a lovely afternoon being creative making Easter cards.

World Book Day and DT day

We had a wonderful day exploring activities linked with familiar stories. We also designed and then made our hand puppets using felt and then we either stitched or glued it together.

Longdown Dairy Farm

The children had a wonderful day exploring the animals at the farm as part of our Science unit. They fed animals, petted them and even collected eggs from the chickens.

Last week before half term

In maths we have focused on counting in twos and making arrays practically.

In science the children sorted animals into categories- herbivores and carnivores.

Our learning for this week

In maths we have been focusing on telling the time to o’clock and half past the hour. We have also looked at 2D shapes, naming them and looking at their properties. We then looked at finding half and quarters of some shapes.

In computing we enjoyed exploring directional language using the robots. Children worked together to decide on where they wanted their robot to travel and then directed it.

Our Liturgy

Year 1 welcomed friends and family to join in their Liturgy about The Good Samaritan.

A visit to the Chapel

Today the children enjoyed going to the Chapel at Oakland’s School to listen to the story of the Good Samaritan. We talked about the qualities needed to be a good person.

Last week of term

In DT the children created Christmas cards with moving parts.
