January
It has been a very busy couple of weeks in Year One.
First of all we would like to congratulate Mrs Conlon on the safe arrival of her baby boy, Ezra Joseph Conlon!
And welcome to Miss Shaw starting in Turtle class Thursdays and Fridays.
We started off the month with a visit from a dental nurse and learnt a lot about how to look after our teeth.

We have also started music lessons (Turtles first, Pufferfish after Half term) learning tuned percussion.

Week 3
During history the children looked at old and new toys and thought about vocabulary they could use to describe what they are made from. They then grouped the toys. We also talked about how toys have changed over the years.

During maths mastery the children have been using Rekenrek to show number bonds to 10.

Autumn Term 2 Week 1
In computing the children have been continuing to use a mouse on the laptops and they were able to draw a self portrait in the paint programme.

In history we have started our new toy unit. The children enjoyed bringing in their own favourite toy from home. We put them in a circle and the children had to have a go at guessing which toy belonged to which child based on what they know about each other’s interests.

Week 6 in Year 1
In maths we have been counting out 1p coins to buy things from the shop. We also practised counting in tens. The children counted objects to make groups of ten.

In computing we have been using a keyboard to type our names. The children learnt how to use the caps lock key to capitalise the letters for the start of their names and then how to use the backspace button to delete if needed.
