Nearly there…
Another wonderful week of learning in Year One is coming to an end.
REMINDER- tomorrow the children will be spending the whole day in their new classes. They will line up at the gates on the south playground like they would in Year Two and will be taken by Mrs Osbourne and Miss Allen up to the Year Two classes. Children dropped to the north playground will be led down by a teacher to the class rooms as well.
We hope you have a fantastic day in Year 2 everyone!
Not long to go now Turtles and Pufferfish, keep up the fab work.
New Beginnings
We have had a very exciting morning this morning. We have begun our journey in to Year Two! We can’t believe how fast this year has gone but everyone really enjoyed their morning with their new teacher all the way in red phase. The children will get to know their teacher more on Monday 10th July and Friday 14th July.
We are loving learning about London. Creating 3D London landmarks and maps of London to learning about the great fire of London and Samuel Pepys diary.
Did you know Paddington Bear LOVES marmalade sandwiches? Well in maths, we have been focusing on halves and quarters. We made him sandwiches, cutting them up in to halves and quarters for him. However we may have eaten them before Paddington got a look in!
Red hot learning
We are so impressed with the learning Year One continued to do even in the scorching temperatures last week- there was no stopping them! What fantastic learners you are. You deserved those extra long breaks in the shade with plenty of water. Although it is not as sunny as last week, please continue to bring in sunglasses, hats, suncream and especially water bottles in to school.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 26th June is sports day. Children are to come in in their sports wear. The house teams and colours are written on the classroom window if you need to check. Children will need to wear a t-shirt the same colour as their team. Again- please provide appropriate outdoor gear and water bottles. We still have children not bringing them into school- it is much easier for children to get enough to drink throughout the day if they have a water bottle rather than cups of water, thank you.
Another reminder- this Friday 30th June is an inset day, we hope it is nice weather for you all to enjoy a long weekend!
This weeks learning
In Numeracy, we have been continuing to learn to count in 5s. We have linked this to capacity this week. We have been investigating how many teaspoons would fill different jugs as a teaspoon holds 5ml of water.
We have been very lucky that the sunshine has allowed us to continue our learning outside this week too.
Reminder- the trip to Marwell zoo is next week the 18th May. Please can we have all reply slips for the trip back as soon as possible. If you have offered to help on the trip please look for a note in your child’s diary. Thank you
Welcome back
Hope you all had a lovely and well rested Easter. We have a short term this term so have lots to fit in! We have started our new topic ‘the amazing outdoors’. This week we have been sorting packets of seeds into 5s- we are very good at our 5 X table now- please practice at home to keep it up!
In English we have been reading Julia Donaldson- What the lady bird heard, we have focused on the characters the robbers, using adjectives to describe them. There were rumours they may be coming in to school next week to see us, so we have written questions to ask them, such as-
Why did you not just buy a cow? Have you always been robbers? How did you know the prize cow was there? Have you learnt your lesson now?
As we enter the month of May, Mary will be a focus of our worship and RE lessons. If children wish to produce homelearning around Mary, that would be wonderful. The internet has lots of lovely activities they could do.
Date for your diaries- we have a trip to Marwell zoo booked- Thursday 18th May. A letter will be out shortly, stating all the details. If you are able to attend as a parent helper and have been CRB checked through the school, please let us know.
Spring is here!
After lots of rain and dark days, Spring has finally started to show. It’s time for Year One to make use of the fantastic secret garden.
Learning phonics outside in the sunshine makes learning far more enjoyable.
Children love making trails of sounds using the sound mats- jumping on each one, saying each sound as they jump.
Today we have also had the pleasure of Grace’s Grandma come in to share with Year One some very special and wonderful toys. Some of the toys were created in 1851! What an experience to see so closely such old and precious toys, we are very thankful for the opportunity.
Reminders
Welcome back Year One, we have started our new topic toys!
Some dates for your diaries for this new term-
Thursday 2nd March- World book day. All children are invited to dress up as a character from a book of their choice.
Tuesday 7th March- we would love for all of Year One to bring in a toy from home to share with the class. Please be sensible with toy choices- nothing very special or breakable or electronic- thank you.
Year One Liturgy
Wow. Year One you have blown us away. The Liturgy this morning was absolutely fantastic. You behaved impeccably, the acting was superb and the reading was marvellous.
Thank you to Father Vitalis for leading us in our worship.
Thank you to all who made it to worship with us this morning, here are some pictures if you were unable to attend.
