This week’s learning

The children spent time making amounts using base ten. They showed each number using tens and ones. They also found one more and one less than a given number.

In the afternoons the children have been exploring 3D shapes in maths. We discussed their names, properties and shapes that are similar in our environment.

In English we have started our new book called Oliver’s Vegetables. The children explore lots of real veg and discussed some excellent vocabulary to describe what they could see.

Sports Day

The children had a wonderful morning taking part in Sports Day. Thank you to all the families that were able to support the children.

Fire Safety Visit

Year 1 really enjoyed a visit from the fire safety team. We learnt how to stay safe at home and what to do in an emergency.

EARA cultures project

Year 1 focused on learning about India. We looked at the location, weather and food. We looked in more detail about the clothing they wear and how it is different to what people wear in the United Kingdom.

We gathered some thoughts from the children-

”Their clothes are very pretty and colourful.”

”They wear long clothes in India but we wear shorts in summer.”

”They have their arms out but their legs are covered.”

Summer 2

The children enjoyed their music lesson with the ukuleles.

The children have also enjoyed learning about how to use the Scratch programme on the iPads.

In maths the children have been counting in 5’s. They counted bears in groups of 5.
