Illuminated Letters – Year 4’s Anglo-Saxon Masterpieces!
Our talented Year 4 artists have been stepping back in time to the Anglo-Saxon period, exploring the beautiful and intricate artwork found in the Lindisfarne Gospels.
The children learnt how monks carefully decorated manuscripts with elaborate letters, detailed patterns and vibrant colours. Inspired by these incredible works of art, they designed and created their own illuminated letters, using intricate patterns and decorative details.
To help us experience what life might have been like for the monks, the children worked silently while listening to peaceful spiritual music. This created a wonderfully calm and reflective atmosphere, allowing everyone to concentrate on their artwork with patience and care.
It was lovely to see the children so absorbed in their creations, demonstrating fantastic attention to detail and creativity.
We are incredibly proud of their beautiful Anglo-Saxon-inspired artwork!
