This week in Maths the children have solved problems involving measures and started working on division. In English, they have finished their letter to Mrs May and are now planning a speech to persuade Marvel that their chosen superhero is the greatest ever created.

Please continue to work on the spelling lists, using the strategies given. In lessons this week children have broken down words into prefixes, root words and suffixes and started to proofread for mistakes with common exception words. They must carry on learning words from their personal spelling lists.

Reading comprehension homework is due on Tuesday next week, when another one will be sent home. Please don’t forget that children should be reading daily as well as practising spellings and Maths. The book review challenge was introduced yesterday and should encourage some quality reading. Children should always take home their weekly times tables and Testbase arithmetic tests. These should provide a good basis for homework.

This week Hannah Maple (5E) received the golden leaf award for persevering in Maths. Patrick Healy (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Lilli Zaczek (5T) received the golden leaf award for setting a good example in all areas of school life. Emma Mpario (5T) has her writing on the showstopper wall.

Enjoy your long weekend,

The Year 5 team
