Year 5 visit Oaklands Science Lab

Year 5 had an excellent time visiting the Science Lab at Oaklands. During their visit, their challenge was to separate salt and sand from water to make fresh ‘drinkable’ water.

To do this, they first seperated the salt water from the sand, using filter paper. They then heated their salt-water solution with a bunsen burner. The water evaporated and they were left with salt crystals.

Their learning linked with our Catholic Social Teaching focus of The Common Good, as this process could be used to help support poorer communities who do not have access to fresh drinking water.
