All about Space

Well done year 5 on your creative space home learning over the half term! You were all able to discover some fantastic facts about the eight planets in our solar system. You have all learned so much! 5D thoroughly enjoyed watching some children’s PowerPoints. See photos below.

Space VR Workshop

We were lucky enough to be visited by Gary who gave us a chance to visit space through a VR headset. It was wonderful experience as we got to explore Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and then got a quick summary of Neptune, Uranus and the 5 dwarf planets. An AI came with us on our journey through Space teaching us everything a scientist knows, we also learnt how many moons each individual planet has. It was a spectacular adventure and we are so grateful that we got to do it.

PSCO Visit

Carl and Gemma the PCSO’s visited us on the 5th February and talked about how on the 29th February we will be doing a speed operation. They taught us different road signs and what they all mean to drivers, they then asked us a series of questions like “who’s parents drives them to school. They showed us a roleplay which helped us to understand it a bit more. We will be using a speed gun to examine driver’s speeds and if they go over 30mph they shall be pulled over and asked a survey of questions. We then got to ask the PCSO’s any questions we had to reassure ourselves.

Take care of your speed!

Sporty Week for Year 5

On Thursday we went to Horndean Technology College for a schools’ golf tournament.

We played lots of fun activities involving golf.

There were 8 teams involved so we could play against them and still have fun as well. We also learnt teamwork and to respect the other teams. Overall we came 2nd place.

On Friday we had our INTER HOUSE SPORTS COMPETION where the House Teams can play against

each other in lots of different sport events like athletics, football, tennis and netball. At the end, the points are counted to see who has won. We watched the year 3s to be an audience  and encourage them to do it and we were very sensible and I think we did a good job ourselves. At the end everyone who participated got a certificate.
