This week we began work on our Space topic. As part of this topic we visited Winchester Science Museum where children experienced a space workshop and planetarium show. They all had a fantastic time learning lots of new facts about space and even had time to explore the range of science activities on offer at the museum.

In maths this week children have continued their work on fractions with a focus on adding and subtracting and exploring improper fractions and mixed numbers. Next week we will be finding fractions of different amounts. Please check out the pre-teach video on the maths blog over the weekend as it will help prepare children for Monday’s lesson.

In English we have started our new topic on persuasive writing. Children will be writing persuasive leaflets convincing Tim Peake to visit Pandora.

All children should be well underway with their spring reading passport. Those who complete the challenge will be entered into a draw where two pupils from each class will be chosen to enjoy an afternoon at Rock Up in Whitley.

Poetry booklets have also gone home this week. Please help your child chose a poem to learn off by heart.

Have a great weekend

Year 5 team.
