Rousing Residential

A wonderful week has been had by all year 5 pupils on our residential trip to The Sustainability Centre. The children were exceptionally well-behaved and fully engaged with all tasks. They experienced a range of eco-friendly activities including; clay oven building, den creation, a night walk, a local farm visit, fire-building demonstrations and an eco-exploration of the site. The centre even linked some of their activities to our WWII topic, informing children about the history of the site which was a Naval communications building during the Second World War. A talk from one of the rangers gave children a chance to explore a wide variety of World War 2 artefacts and dance along to some jive music played on an original gramophone. The second night saw us all huddle around an open camp-fire where teachers were entertained with ‘jokes’, singing and dancing.

Thank you to all of the children for being excellent ambassadors for St Peter’s and for their curiosity and collaboration throughout their visit.

Next Friday during out celebration assembly, Year 5 will get the chance to talk about their experience with the rest of the school.

Photos to follow early next week – after we have caught up on some much needed sleep!

Have a restful weekend!

The Year 5 team.

Friday 5th October, 2018

This week in English we have been looking at figurative language with a particular focus on personification and similes. Children are preparing to write a sensory description on an image from ‘The Day War Came’ by Nicola Davies. In maths, they have been continuing to apply their understanding of addition and subtraction through routine and non-routine problems.

The spellings this week are ‘ible’ and ‘able’ words. Children have explored the rule where most words ending ‘able’ have a root sounding word before it. Spelling books will be expected in on Monday 15th October, ready for a test.

On Monday Year 5E will be heading off on their three day residential, 5PC leave on Wednesday. Don’t forget to arrive in your Sustainability clothing ready for the normal school time. Please remember to add in a small packet of biscuits or cakes for the trip.

**Please remember all medicines are to be handed to Mrs Edge on Monday and Mr Crozier on Wednesday.

This week Ben Lymer (5E) received the golden key award for being a super ambassador of St Peter’s, during open afternoon. Sihanua Sumba (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Isla Challis (5PC) received the golden key award for her always putting 100% effort into everything she does. Jacob Kurowski (5PC) has his writing on the showstopper wall.

Have an enjoyable weekend,

The Year 5 team
