This week the children have been finding factors and using the multiplication grid method. This involves being able to multiply by multiples of 10 and 100. They have also been deriving facts from known facts. Please practise, for homework, problems like 17 x 6, 24 x 15 or 375 x 28 within a grid. Children should also practise mental maths such as 7 x 20, 20 x 30, 8 x 300 or 40 x 600 and counting in steps, on a number line, including negative numbers. In English, they have completed their non-chronological reports and started to plan a persuasive piece.
Please continue to work on the spelling lists, using the strategies given. Also practise words ending with –ably and –ibly including words that are not on the list sent home.
This week George Gill (5E) received the golden leaf award for his commitment to improving his maths knowledge and for helping others do the same. Aeryn Coath (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Freya Bijumon (5T) received the golden leaf award for her consistent effort and help to other children. Cecilia Crocker (5T) has her writing on the showstoppers wall too.
Make sure you have received our letter about the upcoming visit to the Science Museum and ensure the reply is returned by the 2nd February.
Have a relaxing weekend,
The Year 5 team
