Friday 24th November, 2017

This week the children have been interpreting line graphs and matching line graphs to descriptions. In English, they have speculated about some story pictures before the real story was revealed. Then the children have recorded their emotional responses through annotating pictures.

Please continue to work on the spelling lists sent home, using the strategies given. Go over the recent list of spellings that were sent home to ensure they have been learnt correctly.

The children were a credit to St Peter’s during the Mass last week. They demonstrated their knowledge of the Angelus and were very well behaved on the journey to church and back.

This week Madeleine Heard-Laureote (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to be a good friend to a person in need’ and Kafui Djokey (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Molly Perkins (5T) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to be kind, caring and always smiling.’ Theo Jackson (5T) has his work on the showstoppers wall too.

Have a lovely weekend,

This week the children have been adding and subtracting fractions, finding the lowest common multiple and finding equivalent fractions. They have continued to use their knowledge of improper fractions and mixed numbers too. In English, they have been writing, editing and publishing their non-chronological reports about extreme sports.

Please continue to work on the spelling lists sent home, using the strategies given.

Just a reminder, Year 5 and 6 Mass will take place on Tuesday 21st November. Many thanks to those who have offered to help walk the children to and from the church. We look forward to seeing you there if you are available.

The children had a lovely time at Fort Nelson, becoming ‘spies’ and using I-pods to record their ideas for disabling the fort. The guides running the workshops were very impressed with the World War II knowledge the children displayed.

This week Ernie Purkis (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him for using his critical thinking skills while on a trip to Fort Nelson’ and Molly Gray (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Dominic Lethbridge (5T) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him to behave quietly and politely.’ Tia Abbinnett and Alicia Richards (5T) have their work on the showstoppers wall too.

Have an wonderful weekend,

This week the children have been ordering and comparing fractions. They have also been converting improper fractions into mixed numbers and vice versa. In English, they have been planning their non-chronological reports about extreme sports and practicing writing a variety of sentences. The children have been writing monologues about experiences of soldiers during the war, in preparation for our Remembrance assembly on Monday.
Please continue to work on the spelling lists sent home, using the strategies given.
Today the children enjoyed an entertaining presentation from the two authors who visited.
Just a reminder: a packed lunch will be needed for the trip to Fort Nelson next Wednesday. School uniform, sensible shoes and a warm coat are required.
A letter has been sent home today about our upcoming Year 5 and 6 Mass. It will take place on Tuesday 21st November; any offers of help to walk the children to and from the church will be gratefully received.
This week Molly Gray (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her for being committed to producing a high standard of work all the time’ and Sigciniwe Dlamini (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Alicia Richards (5T) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her for being a lovely member of the class.’ Josh Hunter (5T) has his work on the showstoppers wall too.
Have an enjoyable weekend,
The Year 5 team

Friday 3rd November, 2017

This week the children have been reading and interpreting timetables. Many of them found it quite challenging to work out time differences so it would be useful to practise this. For example: if a television programme starts at 9:15 and lasts for 1 hour and 40 minutes, at what time will it finish? In English, they have continued to use the subject of extreme sports while learning about different sentence types. They will need their research on an extreme sport for Monday so please make sure this has been completed.

Your child should have received spelling homework on Monday and a long spelling list and leaflet on Tuesday. Please make sure they complete the set task and work on the list steadily.

Today the whole school enjoyed a History deep learning day. Year 5 looked at the contribution that women made to the war effort.

The letter for Fort Nelson went home on Thursday and needs to be returned by Friday 10th November. Please could you let us know if you are able to help on the day.

This week Anna-Louise Heathcote (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her for being a very happy, caring and helpful member of the class’ and Jack Jordan (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Cecelia Crocker (5T) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to listen well and improve her work following advice.’ Yohan Jossey (5T) has his work on the showstoppers wall too.

Have a relaxing weekend and enjoy the fireworks.
