Anti-Bullying Week in Year 4!
This week has been Anti-Bullying Week and we have been lucky enough to explore this issue through many different ways:
On Monday we had a debate around a key character in the book we are studying in Literacy and learnt to see things from more than one side.
On Wednesday we had a speaker who came in to talk to use all about hearing dogs for the deaf and this gave us many things to think about.
Finally today, we had a speaker from dogs for the blind. They came in and talked to us all about the challenges of living as a blind person and the woderful work guide dogs do.
This has been a great experience for teaching us all about the differences between people in the world around us and why we should all be treated with the same level of respect.

We are really looking forward to Winchester Science Museum coming in tomorrow and supporting all the learning we have already been doing about sound! Lots of photos to follow!
Thank you,

Crash, Bang, Wallop! What a picture!
We would like to start our weekly blog with a massive thank you to all of you who were able to help us in walking up to the library last Thursday. The children were so excited about seeing their pictures on display in Waterlooville library and had a massive amount of fun exploring the library itself (as the pictures below show!)
This week we have really started to do in depth exploration of our topic. Below you’ll see some pictures of what we got up to in our experiment:
Through this experiment we found that sound is vibrations through the air. The children were really enthusiatic in developing their ideas and testing them out!

Anti Bullying Week
Next week is anti-bullying week. Throughout this week we will be running activities based around anti bullying and respecting the differences in others. As well as our class based activities we will have two special visitors coming into school on Wednesday and Thursday (but we’re going to keep who they are a secret!).
p.s. Don’t forget about Abacus and MyMaths-they’re so valuable for your children’s home learning! We are continuing to put exciting activities on there every week!
Thank you,

Winchester Science Museum Visit for Year 3 and 4
Winchester Science Museum Visit for Year 3 and 4
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Friday 21st November, the children will be lucky enough to have a visit from a specialist Science teacher from Winchester Science Museum. She will be spending the morning with the Year 4 children who will be taking part in the ‘Sounds interesting’ workshop. In the afternoon, she will be working with the Year 3 children on the ‘lights and shadows’ workshop.
In both workshops, the children will be able to have a hands on experience using the resources provided by Winchester Science Museum. The workshops are designed to be investigative and will support the curriculum covered this term in both Year groups.
We would be grateful for a contribution of £2.00 for your child’s workshop. If you are able to pay online this would be greatly appreciated as this is a more secure way of paying. If not, please send your contribution into your child’s class teacher in a named envelope.

Our new topic – Pitch Perfect!
Hello!
It has been a great first week back where we have enjoyed hearing about what the children have been doing over half term. We have also been really impressed with all of the exciting home learning that has been going on. So far we have shared powerpoints, drawings, stories and models.
This term we are starting our exciting new topic – Pitch Perfect!
We have created a new pyramid of home learning ideas that is linked to the topic and they are now stuck in the children’s home learning books.
We hope that you have lots of fun exploring these things at home. We have many things planned that will let us explore sound in lots of ways! We are really looking forward to the rest of this half term and all the learning that we are going to do!
Thank you,
Year 4 Team
Lion King Mask Making Magic!
Hello,
I’m sure that you’ve heard that our art day was a great success! The children were able to use all of our 5C’s to help them create a wild animal mask that they are very proud of. Below you can see some pictures of the magic happening!
As you can see lots of work and lots of skills were used to create these masks. We will be using these masks as part of a lion king dance that will be performed to other children on Friday. Check back on the blog to see some fierce photos!
Thank you,
Year 4 Team
Mass, Masks and Maths
Hello,
We have had a very busy week this week with lots of what we have been learning in maths and literacy over the half term having to be used. In our maths we have looked at time and have shown real commitment and curiosity when calculating intervals of time. 4P have been very lucky this week and have had Mrs. Luter teaching their class as Miss Plummer is helping our Year 6 classes at Stubbington.
We hope that you enjoyed the mass and the children had a fascinating time being shown around the Sacred Heart Church, getting a chance to discover more about how the Church works.
We have been very impressed with the quality and quantity of home learning that the children have been doing, it has helped everyone to see how our learning can be used at home as well as at school. A big well done to our runners as well who, on Tuesday afternoon, went on a mile run with lots of other children from around the county and did remarkably well!
Tomorrow will be our art day! (Pictures to follow!) We hope that children bring in enough materials to make the day a real success as well as to create some really effective masks!
As ever Abacus, Bug Club, and My Maths are all up and running and we are very happy to see so many children having a go and earning rewards!
Thank you,
Mr. Austin and Miss. Plummer
Art Attack!
Hello,
We’ve had another very successful week in year 4 with lots of learning happening across the curriculum.
We have started to design our own Lion King inspired animal masks, these will be used by the children to perform the dances we have been creating in PE. We are planning to create the masks out of papier mache. The children have made a list of materials they would need, we can of course provide some of these materials, but it would be a good chance for us to learn about recycling if they could use some materials from home.
Next Friday (17th October) we will be having an art day on which we are creating our masks!
Some of the children have decided they would like things such as:
-
Wire
- Carboard
- Sequins
- Newspaper (Lots!)
- Balloons

Abacus
We have noticed that lots more of you have now been logging on but some have still come to us with a few problems regarding opening the games. Here are some tips to help:
-
Please try ‘allowing pop-ups’ and open the game in ‘google chrome’.
-
If it still isn’t working, try clicking on ‘Run a quick test’ (shown below in picture).

We have now uploaded more games onto Abacus maths and Mymaths for you all to enjoy!

A Creative Week!
This week we have had our first taste of writing our stories about animals that we have spent our time before investigating and planning. The teachers were very imporessed by the commitment shown by all children in their writing.
In PE the children have really improved their dances and have used their skills of collaboration to put together some impressive sequences.
Music is continuing to be a big hit as you can see from the pictures below:
We have learnt all about the pulse through music and how this can affect how music sounds.
We would also like to let you know that we have our Mass at Sacred Heart Church coming up shortly. A letter will be coming out shortly with more details. We look forward to seeing you then!
Thank you Mrs. Woolhead!
We would all like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Woolhead for coming in to our classes last Friday and teaching us about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
We all learnt lots about how we digest food and the healthy and unhealthy things that are in different foods, even the teachers had some of their questions answered!
At the end of her talk Mrs. Woolhead set us a special task- to come up with a leaflet to tell people about the need to live healthily, that will be displayed in her doctors’ surgery. Now we are looking to find out even more information about healthy living so that we can share this knowledge with other people.
It’s been so great to see lots of children already bringing in presentations, models and posters of what they have found out so far! We have loved sharing with the class and other teachers! Keep it up year 4!
