Marvellous Mass!

Hello,

In this post we would like to celebrate the mass that we had this morning. Father Vitalis came and gave us a very entertaining mass that everyone engaged with the very important message of Christ being our light.

This links to our RE unit of Revelation (you can find information about this and home learning ideas in home learning diaries).

In Literacy- we are starting to write our own holiday brochures for Florida, linking into our unit of The Magic Kingdom. If possible it would be useful if children could bring in holiday brochures to help see the structure of them (also for pictures!)

Before we sign off a small reminder that next Thursday is our Parent’s Maths workshop from 9:15-10:30. All are welcome to come and join in with some Arty Maths!

Thank you,

Year 4 team

Marvellous Maths!

Hello,

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our marvellous maths evening yesterday! We hope you found it informative and feel more confident in supporting your child. For those of you who were unable to attend, we have attached a copy of the booklet we gave out which includes the calculation methods the children use at school.

Again, we are so impressed with the home learning that the children are doing and pictures of this will be on the blog soon.

Exciting Reading

This half term Year 4 are reading books written by the author David Walliams, who has written some exciting books for children to read. Some of the titles are Mr Stink, Billionaire boy and Gangsta Granny. These books are in our school library as well as Waterlooville Library. Year 4 have a reading display board outside 4P class room where the children can find information out about the author David Walliams. There is also a crossword they can enjoy as well. They can do at school or bring home and enjoy with their book.

Home Learning Success

Hello,

This week we have excitingly started our new instrument for the term. The clarinet! We know how much you all enjoyed the concert that we were able to put on at the end of the last term and we are pleased to let you know that we will have a concert at the end of the current term.

We would like to mention how impressed we are with the amount of home learning we have already received and it is clear that the children are really engaged with the Magic Kingdom topic! All of your children will now have received a copy of the home learning pyramid, however to help keep you informed we have also attached a copy of the home learning pyramid: Bloom’s HL – The Magic Kingdoma

As always we have updated MyMaths and Abacus maths so there is still lots for everyone to do at home!

Thank you,

A New Year and a New Exciting Topic!

Hello,

Welcome back to a brand new year! We hope that everyone is settling well into the routine of being back at school. We have hit the ground running and already have been working hard on our new topic…

THE MAGIC KINGDOM!

Our new topic is a Geography focused topic looking at the state of Florida as well as things to do with the Magic Kindom itself. We will also be comparing North America to England. As with each new topic your child is going to be given a new home learning pyramid; on this pyramid there will be ideas of the kinds of things that your child can explore as part of their home learning each week. This pyramid is not designed to be a tick list of things that have to be done but rather a source of ideas and inspiration that the children can take where they like. You’ll see these pyramids in your child’s home learning book today!

As ever MyMaths and Abacus have been updated, we know how much you enjoy these so please don’t forget to go on the websites!

In English a the moment we are exploring fantasy stories so if you can get down to your local library to find some fantasy books or introduce them to some of your favourite fantasy stories, this will help to support their understanding of the genre.

In maths at the moment we are emphasisng the importance of place value and how it can support the speed of mental addition and subtaction.

In RE we are about to look at our unit Revelation. In your child’s home learning diary there will be some informatonn of things that you can do at home to support their understanding of this area.

Thank you,

Year 4 Team

Merry Christmas from year 4!

Thank you for those of you who were able to attend our carol service and drum concert this week! The children did a great job and it was so lovely to see so many of you there supporting them.

A special thank you to those parents who were able to walk with us to the church too!

The children have worked very hard this term and should be very proud of themselves.

We look forward to starting our new topic in the new year, which will be kept a secret until nearer the time. We will then send out the new home learning pyramid that will give the children ideas of what they can reserach.

Home Learning: We have updated abacus, my maths and bug club for the children to use over the holidays.

The year 4 team all wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Madness and Mayhem in the Mary Garden!

Hello,

English

This week we have been writing up our newspaper reports about the mysterious vandalism that occured in the Mary garden last Thursday. The children have been great detectives and have found lots of evidence to help find the culprits. They found: Footprints, grafitti, a sign, turned over tables and trays and pots hung over the trees. The place was a mess!

Maths

In maths we have been learning about the different types of angles: right angle, acute and obtuse angles and also the different types of lines: parallel and perpendicular.

Spellings

In spellings we have been learning about homophones and words with ou in such as courage, flourish and round.

The children could practise any of these areas for their home learning this week.

Just a reminder that next week is our Carol Concert at Sacred Heart Church. The Concert starts at 10:15am on Tuesday 16th of December. All are welcome! We hope to see you there!

Thank you for your support,

The year 4 team!

p.s. If you can help to walk with us to the church you are always welcome!

Home Learning Success!

Hello,

We have been so pleased to see so many children over the course of this topic really getting involved with their home learning. We have had lots of wonderful musical instruments from colourful maracas to guitars made of rubber bands that can be tuned!

It has also been great  to see the research the children have been putting into sound and how it is produced. We hope to see this engagement continuing up until the end of the year. Some children have started creating powerpoints or writing up their own experiments from home.

Remember that children’s home learning can also be focused around RE and these ideas can be found in home learning diaries!

Dates for the diary:

A quick reminder that our Percussion concert is on the 15th of December at 2:30.

The following day (16th December) we have our Carol Concert at Sacred Heart Church.

Further information about both of these can be found at the office.

Thank you,

Year 4 Team

Year 4 Concert!

Dear Parents/Carers,

Yr 4 Music Concert on Monday 15th December 2014 at 2.30pm

As we approach the end of the Autumn Term we will be holding a music concert for you to come into school and enjoy your child’s performance.

This term the children have been learning to play African instruments in the form of Djembes and other percussion. They have been working hard with Mr Stourton, our music teacher from the Hampshire Music Service, to learn and develop new skills.

The music concert will be held in the school hall on Monday the 15th December at 2.30pm and will last approximately 25 minutes. We really hope you will be able to join us for this concert and celebrate with us the children’s successes in music this term.

We look forward to seeing you.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Plummer & Mr Austin
