Investigations in Year Four

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a wonderfully busy and exciting time in Year Four over the past couple of weeks!

In Science, we have been exploring solids, liquids and gases, learning how materials can change state and how they can be separated. The children especially enjoyed our hands-on experiments where they investigated different ways to separate materials—there was lots of curiosity, teamwork and great scientific thinking on display!

In English, we have begun our new topic based on The Snowman. To immerse ourselves in the story, we took part in a range of fun activities to explore the different parts of a snowman and link this to our science learning about changing states of matter. One of our favourite activities was investigating a deconstructed snowman on our sensory table. The children used their senses and imagination to come up with powerful descriptive vocabulary for the snow, ice, buttons, branches and silk scarves.

As always, we really appreciate your support at home. A polite reminder to please encourage the children to continue logging in to Times Table Rockstars, especially the Garage option, to build their confidence and fluency.

Best wishes,
Year 4 Team
