STEM Day fun to end the week!

Dear all,

STEM DAY fun ends another busy week in which we began to write our aboriginal stories and started our geometry unit in maths.

We explore the topic of SOUND today with various investigations into how sounds are made and how sound travels. We conducted an investigation into pitch, volume by making pan pipes and harmonicas and considered how we could change variables to change the pitch our instruments.

See our results investigations below:

Creating sound waves.

Investigation how sound waves travel and how they change with distance.

Investigation sound vibrations.

Playing our made instruments varying the pitch and volume.

Carnival!

Dear all,
In Maths this week, we have been applying our knowledge of fractions to decimals and have been solving problems. Once we have completed this we will be moving on to our geometry topic.
In English, we have begun our new topic linked to Australia, dreamtime stories. The children have collated appropriate vocabulary for their character and setting. They have also been recapping complex sentences with subordinate clauses and sentences with fronted adverbials, in preparation for a setting description next week.
In RE we have continued with our Pentecost unit. The children were thinking about the qualities of saints and some were evening thinking about saints in modern society.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the carnival this afternoon and what lovely weather too! We showed off the art work created with Mrs Pearson and shared two bush ballads we had learnt; Waltzing Matilda and the Kookaburra song.

Celebrations:
Golden Key:
4S: Bradley Polley: ‘For using the gifts God has given him to show focus and positivity towards learning challenges.’

Friday 7th June 2019

Dear all,

In Maths this week, we have completed our measures unit with time. We were applying different strategies to aid with our problem solving. We will be revisiting our fractions and decimals and recalling ‘what we know’ to apply that to new learning on tenths and hundredths.

In English, we have been publishing and evaluating our non-chronological reports about our chosen mythical creature. The children have worked so hard on producing high quality texts that will hook, engage and inform their audience. The children will choose a selection to be sent to J.K Rowling.

In RE we began our Pentecost, unit by role playing The coming of the Holy Spirit and considering our reactions and actions as modern- day apostles.

Celebrations:

Golden Key:

4S: Sabrina McGannan: ‘For using the gifts God has given her to show thoughtful and kind actions to others.’

4B: Louis Read: ‘for consistently working hard all year.’

Showstopper Writer:

4S: Faith Martin: ‘For writing an effective non-chronological report for a mythical creature to an excellent standard.’

4B: Mikayla Black: ‘For effective editing of her report.’

May 2019 – Mathemagician of the Month:

4S: Isabel Thomas: ‘For challenging herself with her problem solving and reasoning in Maths.’

4B: Ethan Tinsley-Jones: ‘For his impressive learning on time.’
