CAFOD Fundraising
On Thursday 6th October 2016, not only is it American day, but it is also a day to raise funds for CAFOD. Both year 4 classes suggested many exciting fundraising ideas and we have decided that we will be running a competition to guess the number of sweets in a jar. In order for everyone to be involved, we are asking that children bring in any small sweets to add to the pot by Wednesday 5th October.
On Thursday 6th October, the children will have the opportunity to enter our competition to guess the number of sweets in the jar. They will need to donate a nominal amount to enter. There is also a ‘wear it bright’ theme for the day which means that children are allowed to wear their own clothes, the brighter the better! Please ensure that your child has money to contribute to these events.
On Friday the money raised will be presented to the CAFOD volunteers at the morning assembly.
Thank you in advance for supporting this great cause.

What a week!
Hello,
The children have settled back into the routine of school life this week and have shown a real engagement with our learning. Through our first experience of home learning this week it appears that the Stone Age has been a big hit and we’ve had many stone age tools being created and shown to the class (fortunately no one has been practicing their neolithic hunting techniques!) A very big thank you to the children for putting so much hard work in.
You will find that there are new activities on MyMaths and Abacus this week, if you experience any problems please do tell a member of staff. For those trying to access MyMaths through an I-Pad, I am informed that you will need to download the ‘Puffin Academy’ App.
This week in our maths we have looked at adding and subtracting hundreds and ones to a three digit number e.g. 300+455 and 532-4. In our English we have been writing instruction texts and thought about how we could use conjunctions. Perhaps you could write instructions for someone in your house for how to set the table or how to tidy a bedroom.
We hope you really enjoy your learning at home and are looking forward to another wonderful week of learning.
Thank you,
Year 4 Team
Another week is done!
What a great week of learning we have had. We have all been working very hard practicing our subtraction skills in maths, we’ve written our own persuasive leaflets in literacy but we’re sure all the children will agree that the best bit must have been our wonderful trip to Marwell Zoo which links in with our science topic this term.
Here’s part a piece of recount writing from Cecilia in 4HA that tells you some parts of our wonderful day…
Our visit to Marwell Zoo:
On Tuesday 20th September 2016, St Peter’s, the year 4 class, went to the wonderful Marwell zoo to learn about animals and their habitats.
We got onto the double decker bus in the morning. Outseide, we saw loads of different cars and a truck carrying loads of cars. We got out and waited for our groups and, when we were all there, we went through reception to sign in.
After that, Mrs Crocker’s roup saw the penguins dive into the water. they had little beds in the hut and we saw them actually swimming underwater from the look out. They loved swimming and gliding through the dirty water.
Next, we found the baby leopards. They were very cute. We saw them from the viewing platform and they played with the mummy leopard – she was trying to teach them how to climb up on rock hills and jump on logs.
It really was a great day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Happy weekend
Wow, that was a busy week of learning at school!
In Maths, we have been rounding to the nearest hundred with 4 digit numbers. This was quite tricky and so any extra practise at home would be beneficial.
In English, we have been learning how to be persuasive. We were trying to convince an animal to come an stay at an enclosure in ~Marwell Zoo.
Next week is our visit to Marwell Zoo – I’m sure the children are just as excited as the staff. We will be posting pictures of our visit next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Team Four 🙂
