River experience

Today, Mrs Over and Mrs Sykes who are Geography teachers at Oaklands, very kindly helped us with our Geography learning by hosting us for a river demonstration. In groups, we predicted with a piece of string where the river would flow. We tested this with water to see whose prediction was closest. We saw how other smaller rivers formed from the main channel. Then we looked at what materials we might find in a river such as sand, rocks, soil. We discussed how the river might transport these materials and again tested it with water. We looked at the river we had created and learnt key vocabulary to help us describe what we could see. It was an amazing experience to consolidate our Geography learning from last half term and the children really enjoyed it. Thank you Mrs Over and Mrs Sykes for helping us with our learning!
