St Peter’s Catholic Primary School’s Local Governing Body is looking to recruit 2 new governors.  We are looking for a baptised Catholic for the role of Foundation Governor as well as a parent for the role of Parent Governor.  Foundation Governors may not have had any prior connection to the school but would be more than welcome to express an interest in the role.

Our governors play an important role in the leadership and development of the school. Working collectively as a local governing board, governors help to:

Set the strategic direction of the school

Hold school leaders to account for educational outcomes

Oversee the school’s finances and use of resources

Support the school’s vision, values and Catholic ethos

Contribute to decisions about the school’s future

Ensure that the needs and interests of our pupils remain at the heart of our decision-making

Governors work as part of a team and do not need to be experts in every aspect of school life. Training and support are provided to help you understand your responsibilities and become an effective governor.  You don’t need previous experience of being a school governor, or experience of working in education. What matters is that you can bring your skills, experience and perspective to the role, and have a genuine commitment to making a difference to the lives of young people.

The Local Governing Body meets at the school every month (September – July), usually on the third Thursday of the month at 5.30pm.

Our school year has begun with a Mass for pupils from Years 1 to 6 celebrated by our new parish priest Fr Andrew Wagstaff. Pictured here in front of the altar are items presented by children from each year group in the school from 1 to 6 to represent something they will be learning about in the coming year. The celebration of Mass was a lovely way to start the year and bring the school community together, at the end of which we commissioned ten pupil chaplains who will serve the school over the coming year.

The summer has definitely ended this week as we returned to school. Even after all that heat, the rain was only partly welcome during the first three days of term, but at least the school field is starting to look a little greener.

We welcome new children and staff starting at St Peter’s in different year groups, and we are especially looking forward to our new Reception class children beginning their school journey with us next week.
