Reflecting on the importance of Lent.

This week, the children have studied Jesus’ teachings around Praying, Fasting and Giving Alms. This work introduced them to the Hypocrites – those who would blow trumpets before they gave in the synagogues and on the streets. We learnt that we should do our good works secretly and quietly, as God the Father will see and hear them, and we will be rewarded.

Discussion focused on which of Praying, Fasting or Giving Alms the children thought was most important. You can read some of their responses below:

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year 6 Team

Imaginative designs for World Book Day.

The children enjoyed this year’s World Book Day in Year 6 which had as its focus ‘Stormbreaker’ by Anthony Horowitz. Time was given to analysing a short, suspenseful scene after which the children were fully engaged in a ‘free write’ activity where the aim was to improve upon Horowitz’s words. Children were able to think back to the suspense scene from our Shackleton unit and remember to use two to three SSFI – short sentences for impact!

Of course, a lot of the fun of the day comes from dressing up as a favourite character! Kudos to everyone who took part – the children looked fantastic!
