The restaurant project by Year Three

The day has finally arrived for Year 3 to run a restaurant for a day. The children are already very excited and looking forward to serving YOU! Thank you for your support – we are expecting a very good turn out indeed.

Unfortunately we will not be feeding the children so please send the children in with a snack to eat at the end of the day after school.

The children have created the dessert in school today and it is currently being chilled in the fridge as we speak.

The plan for tomorrow: The children will be going over to Oaklands throughout the day in small groups of 16 to prepare the meal for the evening.   The children will get the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the meal preparations. We will be taking the children to Oaklands after school where they will be supervised and helping to set up the restaurant and finalising any of the meals.  We would like parents to arrive at 4:30 and the food will be served shortly after arrival.  As previously mentioned, there will be 3 courses. In between courses, we have a selection of performers who will keep you entertained.  We anticipate the meal ending at 6pm.

The Menu:

Starter:  Tomato bruschetta on toasted bread, topped with rocket.

Main: Mixed vegetable Ragu served with spagetti pasta and a side salad.

(Vegetables included: onions, peppers and courgettes)

ragu

Dessert: Fruit Jelly topped with whipped cream and a strawberry garnish.

We hope that you enjoy your meal. We ask for a small donation towards the cost of the meal.  Any money left over will be donated to a charity of the children’s choosing.

We are all very excited about tomorrow and hope that any worries have been answered.

Welcome back!

Welcome back everyone.  We hope you have all been enjoying the lovely weather that we have had recently and feel well rested and ready to learn.

A lot has happened while you were away.  I’m sure the news has reached home that there have been sightings of…Dragons! That’s right … Dragons! But do not worry. The Year 3 children held a meeting and discussed possible courses of actions. We heard from Police Officers, Zoo keepers and local residents who had spotted the Dragons! The verdict was that we would attempt to trap these dragons and possibly use them to help us out in our lives. Watch this space for Instructions about how to do these things!

Next week the Year 3 children will be running a restaurant for the day.  Please ensure you have returned the form requesting a seat at the restaurant and specify any dietary requirements.

Spellings: To be able to spell words that use a ‘y’ instead of the ‘i’ such as ‘myth,’ ‘gym’. Could this link to the Dragon topic?? ‘I heard that Dragons were a myth but my mother spotted one working out in the gym after eating 10 cygnets!’ Could you create your own dragon inspired sentences?

This week in Year Three…

Literacy: This week we have had such fun learning about explanation texts! Did you know how a dishwasher works? I  bet you didn’t know that there are actually cats inside your dishwasher that lick the plates clean! And how about how a toaster works? I bet you don’t know about the fire breathing dragon underground that scorches your toast when you lower it into the toasting machine! We have been learning about the Snoozatron, one of Wallace’s Cracking Contraptions! There are more Cracking contraptions available online. Maybe, this weekend, the children may like to have a go at writing their own explanation for one of the other cracking contraptions or even their own!!

Maths: This week we have continued on our learning journey with division. It is worth reinforcing this learning over the weekend. Why not try dividing HTU by a single digit?

Spelling: The spelling rule for this week is to explore plural endings.

RE: We have been learning about the story of the paralysed man this week. The children could look at another miracle from the bible this week.

Topic: The children have enjoyed our PE lessons in which they have been completing simple circuits. Could they have a go at making up their own circuits for the family to try at home or at the park.

Staunton Country Park trip

Here are some of the photos from our recent visit to Staunton country Park.  We all had a great day and luckily the weather held.  There were a few puddles to contend with.  We had a guided tour with an adult from staunton who spoke to us about where our food comes from; we got to feed the animals; and we saw the new baby lambs.

Welcome back Year 3

Welcome back. We hope that everyone had a restful half term. We have lots coming up this half term, some of which is detailed below:

This Friday, 27th February 2015, is 3T class assembly. The theme for the assembly will be the Rainforest. There are no specific outfits needed. The children suggested wearing browns, greens, blacks etc. We look forward to seeing you there!

Then, on friday afternoon the Year 3 and Year 4 children will be having a talent show in the hall.  This will be to raise money for CAFOD during Lent.  The children are being asked to make a donation to attend the talent show. Any donation is welcomed! This is an event for the children only.

We are starting our new topic as of new week which will be all about healthy living. The homework pyramid will be coming home at the beginning of next week.

On Tuesday 3rd March 2015, the year 3 children will be going to Staunton Country Park to learn about where food comes from. The children will need to wear suitable footwear (wellies preferably); a waterproof coat; and we are happy for children to wear their own trousers but they must wear their school jumpers. Pease ensure that the children bring their lunch in a labelled bag so it can be disposed of.

On Thursday 5th March 2015, it will be World Book day.  The children can dress up as their favourite character. They will be taking part in various lessons throughout the day based on various classic fantasy texts. It should be a really fun day for all involved! Pictures to follow!

Parents evening is coming up on the 16th March and 17th March 2015. Slips went out before half term. Please request a new slip if you do not have one.

Maths Morning

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Maths morning today.  I know the children thoroughly enjoyed having your company and we hope that you found it useful also.

Snowing this morning!

Today I woke and it was snowing,

My brother said I know without knowing,

No you don’t I said to him,

He went to get a biscuit out of the tin.

We went to the window to watch the snow,

And in the bedroom we put on a show.

We were so excited,

We thought we could go ice skating.

The snow looked like an ice skating rink.

We went to the kitchen to make a drink.

That’s my poem for this morning.

Snow day …

I woke up, had such a shock.

The snow was falling, the wind roaring.

I went to school, soaked in snow.

We had a snowball fight,

it was such a fright!

I hope it will snow all night.

I wish it was winter always.

It would be a glorious sight;

Snow scattering always through the night. But it would have such a bite.

Snow is puffing steam from a huge machine,

working like a team.
