World Book Day

World Book Day this year is on Thursday 6th March. Your child is invited to come into school dressed as a character from their favourite book. Please do not feel the need to purchase anything new for our ‘dress up’ day – old clothes, simple and safe props from around your home and some creativity will be just the ticket! Your child’s outfit must be a book character and not a video game or a film character that does not have a book based on it. Check out the World Book Day website for easy-to-make costume ideas: https://www.worldbookday.com/celebrate-world-book-day/dressing-up/

Please check your child’s book bag to find their £1 book token. All you need to do is to take it to your local bookseller and swap it for one of the exclusive, new and completely FREE World Book Day books. Or, if you’d prefer, you can use your book token to receive £1 off any full-price book instead. The Book Token has to be redeemed by Sunday 23rd March 2025.
I am looking forward to meeting a multitude of amazing characters in the library on World Book Day and finding out which book your child has chosen to buy with their £1 Book Token.
Hampshire Picture Book Award 2025
Over the spring term, the children in Puffer Fish and Turtle Class are going to read each of these exciting, new picture books. They will read, explore and review the four shortlisted books. Finally, along with all of the Year 1 pupils in Hampshire schools, they will vote for their favourite.

Hampshire Information Book Award 2025
Over the Spring Term, during their library time, pupils in Kangaroo and Koala class are going to read each of these beautiful, new information books.

Together we will explore the non-chronological texts and evaluate the information presented in a variety of styles. We will aim to develop the pupils’ confidence in using information texts and celebrate the value of non-fiction books in an electronic age.
After the half-term holiday, each pupil will vote for their favourite title. These votes will be submitted to the School Library Service, along with those from Year 4 pupils throughout Hampshire. The winning author and illustrator will be announced on Tuesday 25th March 2025.
