Year 6 foil sculptures inspired by Sokari Douglas Camp

SOKARI DOUGLAS CAMP was born in Nigeria in 1958. Her sculptures draw from her heritage, pulling from the Kalabari culture in Nigeria and the culture of London, where she lives now.

This was a really challenging project that I set Year 6 and their finished sculptures have really blown me away! Their creativity and patience over the project is clearly evident.

Have a look…I know you will agree with me.

This fabulous sculpture has been created by Josh and I have to say I think it is brilliant.  What a very artistic way he has created the colourful ‘hair’.  Amazing work Josh – well done!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I absolutely love this foil sculpture, by Ryan.  I think it a real ‘work of art’.  It is clear he has spent a lot of time, especially on the ‘hair’ detail and the feather add a bright finishing touch. Thank you so much Ryan, top job!

Wow! I think this foil sculpture, by Maddie, is truly magnificent. I love the way you have customised the headdress with a very striking pattern. Well done Maddie.

This marvellous sculpture has been created by Marta, and I have to say it is very striking!  I love her bold choice of colours, which make the overall effect very dramatic. Well done Marta.

Anna has created this foil sculpture, which I think is absolutely awesome! I particularly love the branches and leaves that are coming out of the head.  Simply stunning Anna – thanks for sharing this with us!

Poppy has created this beautiful sculpture, complete with a very fashionable headband. Wonderful work Poppy.

Oh my goodness! This sculpture by Emily is amazing and really shows off her  creativity.  Top job Emily – well done.

Daniella had done a sensational job creating her sculpture and the purple headband finished it off perfectly. Well done Daniella!

The children in school found this project fun, but very challenging, but the all persevered.  However, the overall effect is amazing.  Very well done everyone!  Do you have a favourite?
