In Maths, we have been using our knowledge of place value and number to add or subtract using formal written methods. We have also used this knowledge to add or subtract with decimal numbers. We\u2019ve looked at how we can live the Beatitudes in our daily life (R.E.) as well as thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of the UK being an island during WWII (Geog.)<\/p>\n<p>We also celebrated Mass on Tuesday (please see Mr Cunningham\u2019s blog page) which was a lovely event. Well done to the Year 5\u2019s who read the prayers so beautifully. At the end of Mass, the pupil chaplains were asked to affirm their promise to share the Word of God around the school and beyond. Each pupil chaplain was given their own special candle.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Home Learning:<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the yellow <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>Home Reading Journal<\/strong><\/span>, children are expected to complete a book review about a book they have read or are reading. This is due on <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Thursday 7<sup>th<\/sup> October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In their red <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>Homework Book, <\/strong><\/span>children have this week\u2019s vocabulary task to complete along with spellings and maths. This is due on <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Thursday 30<sup>th<\/sup> September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966\">Sent home today, is a creative homework task \u2013 children need to make their own gas mask box ready for being evacuated on Thursday 30<sup>th<\/sup> September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>Reading passports<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0\u2013 please continue to check these, to see which books need to be read.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>**Reminders:<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please send in any <strong>completed medical forms <\/strong>for the residential visit as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Next week is Week 1 \u2013 <span style=\"color: #3366ff\">P.E. kits<\/span> need to be worn on <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> September.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">WW2 Evacuation Day<\/span> \u2013 in school \u2013 Thursday 30th September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a lovely week,<\/p>\n<p>The Year 5 Team<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, in English, we have been planning and starting to write our evacuation diaries.
