Our visitor then passed around a selection of replica tools and artefacts, giving the children the opportunity to see and handle items that early humans may have used in their daily lives.

One of the highlights of the day was learning how Stone Age people made fire. Using a wooden drill technique, the children discovered how friction could produce heat — and the excitement was palpable when smoke began to appear! They also watched a demonstration using flint stones to create sparks, and under close supervision, every child had the chance to safely have a go at making their own fire. It was a truly hands-on experience that captured everyone’s imagination and really demonstrated the ingenuity of early humans.

We’re incredibly grateful to our visitor for such a memorable and inspiring session. It sparked lots of curiosity and discussion, and helped deepen the children’s understanding of life during the Stone Age in a fun and meaningful way.

Year 3 have been diving into the fascinating world of the Stone Age — and to help bring our learning to life, we were thrilled to welcome a special visitor into school!
